Serco Cyber Security Engineer in Arlington, Virginia

Position Description

Serco has a high profile and challenging technical position supporting acquisition of U.S. Navy warfare systems. This great opportunity will allow you to take an important role in supporting U.S. Navy system development for our ships and sailors. Join an integrated government-industry team based in the National Landing (Crystal City) part of Arlington, VA with remote work possible to provide technical expertise in the management of cybersecurity requirements of developmental and in-service missile systems. Serco is seeking an energetic self-starter to be part of a team supporting the customer’s Surface Ship Weapons acquisition program office. Our team supports the design, production, test, and fielding of the U.S. Navy’s most complex surface ship missile systems. Reporting to the development team lead and in collaboration with the system manufacturer and the program office cybersecurity team, you will support efforts to ensure the cybersecurity requirements of these critical systems are met and the systems are certified for use.

In this role, you will:

  • Draft, review, and analyze technical documentation to ensure network architecture and information system solutions adhere to DOD, DON, and NAVSEA Cybersecurity policies (e.g., RMF, CYBERSAFE). Recommend changes to bridge gaps or adjust to evolving Cybersecurity policy and standards.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and maintain systems and procedures to safeguard internal information systems, networks, and databases.

  • Support the system/application assessment and authorization (A&A) effort, to include drafting system artifacts mandated by governing DoD and DON accreditation policies.

  • Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed information systems to identify vulnerabilities, risks, and protection gaps.

  • Support the organization and coordination of missile system Cybersecurity Accreditation under guidance of the missile development team lead. This includes coordinating with the program office cybersecurity lead, PEO IWS cybersecurity director, OEM, and other external stakeholders to accredit and maintain the accreditation of assigned systems.

  • Draft and Manage documentation for risk mitigation, system accreditation, and risk tracking using industry approved software and tools (SCAP, Nessus, etc).

  • Advise team on challenging technical issues, coordinate the use of technical resources across the organization on multi-disciplinary problems, and provide technical guidance and leadership to less-experienced technical staff. Works within a peer group of senior technical staff to periodically review technical plans, results, and work products.

  • Prepares formal briefings to the U.S. Government staff and project sponsors. Participates in technical discussions at program review sessions in accordance with direct tasking.

  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

To be successful in this position you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or similar.

  • 5-7 years’ experience in computer networking and/or cybersecurity accreditation through the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process.

  • Preferred candidate is U.S. Navy veteran with experience aboard a U.S. Navy warship.

  • Secret Security Clearance required at time of hire with eligibility for Top Secret

  • At least one professional certification (e.g. Security+, etc.) required. An advanced professional certification (e.g. CISM, CISSP, etc.) is preferred. Must meet the requirements for the DoD’s Cybersecurity Workforce for Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) at the intermediate level. Degree requirements may be waived or adjusted for candidates with certifications required at the ISSM advanced level.

  • Candidates with high level of direct and relevant professional experience and/or military service may be selected and will be required to attain requisite professional certification within 12 months following employment.

  • The ability to travel at least 10% of the time.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Navy Qualified Validator (NQV) certification and registration preferred.

This Arlington, VA position requires access to government networks and systems. Candidates remote from the Washington DC metro region will be considered, with preference for candidates within commuting distance of Norfolk, VA or Tucson, AZ.
