Salary/Pay Range : $50,000. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.

Summary

This postdoctoral associate will be focused on supporting the objectives of the Henry Luce Foundation funded project, "Living Together: Finding Democratic Diversity and Religious Coexistence in Colorado Springs and the Mountain West," specifically the production of an ethnographic documentary film on the intersections of religion, race, and democracy in the region. The postdoctoral associate will also collaborate with the postdoctoral associate in the Center for Religious Diversity and Public Life to produce and disseminate original media content to promote the documentary film and the center's activities.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

The postdoctoral associate will report to Dr. George Wu Bayuga, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, and their responsibilities will focus on grant writing, public humanities outreach, film direction, production, editing, ethnographic interviewing, media management, and visual ethnographic storytelling.

This will include:

  • Film documentation of oral history interviews, public events, and everyday religious and political life in the region.

  • Drafting materials for future grant applications.

  • Producing a rough cut of a documentary to be edited by a team of student editors.

  • Attending and recording events hosted by the Center for Religious Diversity and Public life.

  • Developing and disseminating media materials for center activities including online advertisements and YouTube shorts.

  • Networking with Colorado Springs residents to document compelling stories about the city's unique demographics and intersectional identities.

  • The associate will also publicly present their personal research at least once during the academic year.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Education: PhD in Anthropology

  • 1 year experience in visual anthropology, documentary film production, and editing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidate should demonstrate evidence of ability to engage students and community populations from diverse backgrounds.

  • 3+ years experience in documentary film production and editing.

  • Understanding of the civil society landscape where issues of race, class, gender, sexuality, religion intersect in the public and private sectors.

  • Working knowledge of contemporary trends in anthropological research to support grant application processes.

  • Working understanding of humanities and social science grant application requirements.

  • Working capacity in digital design and online media creation across social media platforms.
