Shire Medical Affairs Head – MEA in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

  • Develops, manages and leads the Medical Affairs team in MEA for Shire products for both office and field activities

  • Is accountable for in-year implementation of GMT and disease area / product strategies in the Country Cluster.

  • Allocates and oversees utilization of Country Cluster medical budget

  • Tracks appropriate performance metrics, as established in the Region

  • Collaborates with Legal, Compliance and Regulatory to ensure proper and ethical interactions between Country Cluster medical personnel and external stakeholders

  • Member of the Regional Medical Affairs Leadership Team and Country Cluster Leadership Team

  • Acts as a senior company representative both internally and externally

Job Function and Description


Develop, manage and lead the Medical Affairs team in the Country Cluster

  • Work with Regional Medical Affairs Head to define and secure the resources (staff, budget and capabilities) required to support GMT and R&D in the Country Cluster.

  • Coordinate with Human Resources / Talent Management to recruit and retain Country Cluster medical team

  • Ensure Shared Medical Services offerings are appropriately utilized in the Country Cluster.

  • Ensure Country Cluster team participates in required training and develops required competencies (e.g. skills training, disease area training, compliance and reporting training)

  • Monitor and report Country Cluster team performance in terms of goals and delivery against in-year medical plans and field activity plans and identify areas for development

  • Line manage and develop medical field team if applicable

  • Define and oversee implementation of the Country Cluster budget


Oversee implementation of in-year GMT and disease area / product strategies in the Country Cluster

  • Manage resource plan for the Country Cluster per strategy requirements

  • Oversee in-year implementation of GMT strategies/plans in the Country Cluster

  • Oversee development and implementation of field activity plans

  • Supervise activities of Country Cluster team and manage allocation and budgets in coordination with Regional Medical Affairs Lead, to ensure quality and timely delivery against medical plans


Establishment and maintenance of a compliant environment

  • Coordinate with Legal, Compliance and Regulatory to ensure appropriate systems, processes and training is in place in the Country Cluster

  • Ensure that all promotional materials and events are in compliance with Shire SOPs and policies, and local laws and regulations

  • Implement appropriate standards of practice (SOPs)

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A medical degree is required

  • 10 years of experience in biopharmaceutical medicine

  • Experience in medical affairs is required

  • Experience leading teams at the brand or disease area levels in country, regional or global organizations is required

  • Experience in field-based roles (e.g. Medical Manager, Medical Science Liaison) is preferred

  • External: Vendors, key opinion leaders, patient advocacy groups, regional policy makers, etc.

Other Job Requirements

  • Potential travel to International HQ, congresses and in-country meetings

  • Time zone flexibility is a must (e.g. availability to participate in early or late meetings/teleconferences, weekends, etc.)
