The Director, Pet Parasiticide Business Intelligence will be responsible for driving strategic direction and oversight of the Pet Parasiticide Business Intelligence team. They partner and assume shared ownership with cross functional leadership to develop and deploy strategy (marketing, finance, supply chain, and sales). This strategic leader interprets complex business questions and develops recommended actionable options and insights to address significant business opportunities. Leading a team of professionals in marketing research, competitive intelligence, and business analysis (e.g., ROI, predictive modeling, etc.), the Director drives the implementation of novel and/or best in class research and analytic approaches to address complex multi-factorial business challenges and drive results for our strategic brands. The Director ensures that analyses are integrated and provide objective in-depth understanding of markets, product performance, customers, and competitors. The Director drives thought leadership by managing analytic problem-solving in collaboration with commercial teams, cross functional team members and vendors to address strategic questions, generate timely and actionable insights and recommendations, and secure management action through influential communication.

This role manages a team of highly skilled Business Intelligence Analysts who consult on data and insight needs back into the US AH Commercial Operations business. This position is critical to ensure BI utilizes a wide array of reliable analytics techniques to deliver data-driven Sales and Marketing intelligence based on the species he or she supports. Specific areas of oversight include working with the solutions and data delivery team to deliver and optimize solutions for data transparency, aligning data visualization and analytics capabilities with business goals, transforming data into knowledgeable information, and delivering actionable visual insights, to the right people, at the right time, to enable the business to make more of the right decisions, support and communicate to the highest levels of the organization on business topics and performance.

This role is also responsible for prioritizing, coordinating, resourcing, and directing (in association with the marketing team) customer-level primary research. This responsibility includes not only oversight of the research, but also management of an overall budget, which ranges between $1.5 million and $5 million.

Duties & Responsibilities

The team directed by this role will be primarily responsible for the following areas:

  • Market Intelligence - The team under this role will be responsible for being experts in the market(s) in which they cover. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading market indicators, areas of growth / opportunity, areas of retraction / concern, market share by channel, by brand, as well as both macro and micro trends in the industry.

  • Based on this information, the director will be responsible for directing his or her team in the analysis to be performed with this information as well as advising the leadership team in strategic decision making based on incumbents expertise.

  • Competitive Intelligence - The team under this role will be responsible for being experts in the companies and products that compete directly and indirectly with BI in the market(s) in which they cover. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to:

  • Defining, tracking, and understanding competitive strategies, products, and services.

  • Comparing these elements against BI's, and identifying trends, opportunities, and threats to the business.

  • Strategic and business consulting - this role and his / her associated team, will be responsible for advising the business with data, analytics, and insights regarding its most challenging and impactful strategic questions.

  • Challenges that we are asking the right questions, but also bring to bare advanced analytics such that leadership is making data-driven strategic decisions.

  • Directs team performing analysis ranging from advanced analytics such multi-variant regression to more basic analytic approaches such as variances and ratios.

  • Will need to be able to not only run the analytics but have the presence and composure as well as the storytelling capabilities to influence, challenge and direct leadership on material business decisions.

  • Primary research - the team under this role will be responsibility for managing and deploying primary research for all species within USAH, as well as coordinating with global on matters related to this capability. This role will also be responsible for managing the budget related to this capability for the species.

  • Business liaison into CX and DA&I - The team under this role will serve as a liaison between the business and the rest of the DA&I (and where applicable CX) for Data, Analytic and Insight requests. In this capacity, the director will not only direct his or her team in processes and methods for ensuring the requests are properly addressed but will also be responsible for ensuring the request is considered in such a way that it drives the highest business impact possible.

  • Optimizes and responsible for utilizing internal resources including budget for the execution of objectives.

  • Drives performance management of all personnel including all disciplinary action to ensure personnel are meeting or exceeding expectations in their roles.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in mathematics, business, computer science required.

  • Ten-plus (10+) years’ experience in US Animal Health and/or Human Pharma (or similar industry).

  • Ten-plus (10+) years of leading people or projects.

  • Ten-plus (10+) years of market / primary research experience.

  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, practices, and standards including knowledge and use of Animal Health or Pharma data and working knowledge of industry practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas, facts, and technical information clearly and concisely to senior management, as well as other internal customers both verbally and written.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to work with other disciplines.

  • Ability to train user groups and key stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and coordinate efforts with colleagues from several functional areas.

  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in the fast-paced environment.

  • Basic knowledge of market research analytical frameworks for conducting and analyzing primary market research.

  • Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills.

  • A strong understanding of typography and how it can affect visualizations as well as layout, space, and an inherent feel for motion.

  • Models willingness to learn and stay up to date.

  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Must achieve results in a highly matrixed organization.

  • Ability to manage budget and resources.

  • Ability to travel (may include overnight travel).
