The General Accountant is responsible for providing business support for the Work Furniture Group (WFG) branches in West Michigan.  The General Accountant reports to the Division Controller. The General Accountant will assist in month-end close, accounts payable, accounts receivable, capital expenditures, payroll, certain compliance related activities and other ad hoc analyses.  

So what will you be doing as an General Accountant ?

  • Support Shared Services Accounting team with various tasks including accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit management, development and enhancement of departmental work instructions, payroll processing, etc.  
  • Perform various month-end closing activities consistently, timely, and within expectations noted by Corporate Accounting.  This includes ongoing monthly tasks that support the month-end close process.  
  • Utilize the various business reports and metrics to evaluate, interpret, and provide critical information in support of strategic and operating decisions.  
  • Assist in the development of the annual operating plan along with monthly forecasting requirements associated with the 18-month rolling forecast.  
  • Responsible for compliance of Company policies and procedures, evaluate and provide feedback for continuous improvement opportunities.  As needed.
  • Assist with various audit activities regarding internal controls, SOX compliance, external audits, etc.  
  • Report and analyze financial and operating metrics, such as product gross margins, operating expenses, capital expenditures, working capital, etc.    

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • 1-3 years of accounting related experience
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding with Microsoft Excel
  • Previous experience in manufacturing accounting software
  • General understanding of accounting procedures and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Self-motivated and driven
  • General ledger management (journal entries, account reconciliations, etc.)
