Shire Head of Training in Lexington, Massachusetts

Primary Role

Reporting to the Head of Product Operations and Network Excellence, the Head of Training for Technical Operations is accountable for the strategic vision and tactical execution of the training blueprint to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness across the Shire network. The job holder is responsible for developing and delivering the strategy for creating a learning culture across Technical Operations and aligning the training team to best support the Shire business. He/she is also responsible for establishing and leveraging partnerships with the Site Training Teams and for measuring the effectiveness of training solutions.


15%: Work with various functions (Quality, Talent Management, IT, etc.) to balance training Expectations/requirements

10%: Working in a matrixed environment, the successful candidate will ensure that the performance and training approach increases operational effectiveness and compliance.

10%: Ensure alignment of training plans with overall Operations Strategy and operational efficiency

10%: Develop a training action plan for the implementation/deployment of the job skills training strategy and ensure its execution in multiple countries

10%: Develop relevant metrics to assure the training system operates in a state of compliance and productivity and report on status of training programs and deployment of strategy and action plans

10%: Strategically partner with customers to understand and translate business needs and requirements into training deliver defined results

10%: Leverages network training technologies, processes and tools to simplify training processes and remain aligned with operations

5%: Ensure the deployment of best practices between the sites/functions

5%: Perform regular benchmark of industry practices and keep senior Operations leadership informed of trends

5%: Pro-actively monitors changes in the business and designs timely alternative strategies

5%: Advocates and represents organization's learning needs and business requirements to ensure realistic and effective learning solutions

5%: Manages, prioritizes, and communicates the organization’s training programs and performance.

Education & Experience Requirements


Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Science or related field. Master’s degree in education or organizational leadership or related field highly desirable

Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in training strategy and/or operations within pharmaceutical, and Biotech organizations. Previous experience and/or knowledge in needs analysis, instructional design and development adult learning principles and marketing of training programs a plus.

Experience defending such systems with FDA, MOH and other regulatory audits


Languages: Fluent in written and spoken English. German, Italian, and/or French useful

Deep understanding of learning culture development

Other Requirements

Must be able to travel internationally 25-30%
