Marathon Petroleum Corporation Operations Supervisor in Long Beach, California

POSITION SUMMARY

Supervises the safe and efficient operation of the on-shift personnel for the Marathon Pipe Line LA Basin Marine Terminal Operations. LA Basin Marine assets include Berth 121, Terminal 2, Terminal 3, Long Beach Terminal & the Carson Crude Terminal and short haul pipelines that supply the LA Refinery complex. Marine Berths onload and offload vessels 24/7 and handle a multitude of products such as crude, jet, diesel, gasoline, and refinery intermediates. Marine short haul pipelines and terminals are DOT jurisdictional and have a combined storage of 4.3 million-barrels. The combined assets undergo numerous regulatory inspections each year. South Coast Air Quality District, Fish & Wildlife, Home Land Security, CSFM, LBFD, and DOT regulate these assets. The Marine Terminal Operations Supervisor reports to the Marine Area Manager and supervises a team of USW represented Operators. The individual in this role will work a rotating shift.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages health, safety and environmental compliance along with maintaining a good working knowledge of the operation to lead and supervise on-shift personnel also to ensure the daily operational tasks are implemented safely and efficiently.

  • Provides support in staffing, hiring, discipline, training progression within established policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreement, along with the career development of hourly personnel.

  • Maintains regulatory compliance with Federal, DOT, OSHA, State, Local, and company requirements. Handles initial Emergency Response/Spill Response.

  • Supervises routine operations, quality oversight, monitoring of measurement equipment. Manages operations reports. (Custody Transfer, Operations logs, etc.). Provides oversight on –Area Security Inspections, HES, and Hazard Identification.

  • Interfacing/coordinating isolation plans and or permitting of facilities within area of operation. Participates/leads incident investigations.

  • Collaborates with Operations Supervisor peers and Area Manager. Communicates relevant updates/best practices to ensure efficient and safe operations for personnel and assets.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor’s preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of industry operations and/or maintenance experience required.

  • Knowledge of HES policies/practices required.

  • Experience working or supervising in a Unionized work environment a plus.

  • Valid Driver's License required

  • Infrequent to no overnight travel required
