Division of Water Resources (DWR), aka State Engineer’s Office

Our mission is to administer the waters of the State to maximize lawful beneficial use, ensure that dams and water wells are properly constructed and safe, and provide information about water resources to the public.

Description of Job

POSITION SUMMARY:

A field technician position that conducts site inspections and collects structure data related to the Pond Management program for processing and administrative purposes. Daily interaction with landowners and staff requires effective communication skills. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Collection of field data related to ponds and other diversion structures such as:

  • Location

  • Surface area

  • Perimeter

  • Stream conditions

  • Photographing of structure

  • Using collected field data and Pond Classification Guideline to classify structures and enter data in DWR databases.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing and able to work 40_ hours per week.

  • Anticipated schedule is Monday_ through Friday from _8_ a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

  • Must be available to work varied shifts (please provide additional details if known).

  • Must have a current & valid driver's license or reliable transportation.

  • Must be willing and able to travel daily throughout the water district.

  • Must have the ability to report to the work location that can include off-road conditions and rugged terrain.

  • Must have the ability to independently access remote locations to complete work assignments within the district.

  • Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education.

  • Previous working with the public preferred.

  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service.

  • 1 year of professional experience assisting engineers, scientists, or technicians with work related to engineering or physical science, which involves the use, measurement, and control or distribution of water. AND High school diploma or GED

  • Substitutions:

Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis (Experience as a ditch rider, rancher or farmer that included regulating and measuring water flow through headgates, canals or streams, or experience managing irrigation and irrigation systems, scientific field investigations, municipal water operations, Colorado water administration, or other experience related water or natural resources is considered related experience.)"

  • Basic computer skills required (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite, Google Maps Navigation or similar)

  • Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team.

  • Must be willing and able to work outside which may involve inclement weather.
