The Quality/Reliability Engineer will lead the dissection of returned Generac products from the field. They will be responsible for assessing/documenting the failure modes and comparing them against warranty claims. They will also recommend design solutions and lead improvement of the product through both supplier and Generac factory channels

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and dissect returned products from the field to determine root cause(s) of failure/return versus claims.

  • Lead root cause analysis and drive cross functional teams to achieve Generac’s high product performance and reliability standards.

  • Gather and analyze returned product failure mode data to lead improvement initiatives and reduce the potential for future defects.

  • Review engineering specifications/drawings and propose design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements.

  • Monitor equipment performance and evaluate equipment history and failure trends to determine sources of poor component performance.

  • Gain a deep understanding of the operating environment and performance requirements for our products.

  • Create detailed reports documenting failure modes and conclusions.

  • Lead the resolution of Generac factory and supplier quality issues.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

  • 2 years of quality and/or reliability engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience systematically dissecting electrical and mechanical components/systems.

  • Experience with reliability failure modes and failure mechanisms.

  • Ability to apply engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services, and processes.

  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems.

  • Excellent oral and written communication.

  • Strong root cause and decision-making skills.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
