Shire Global Commercial Lead - Internal Medicine in Zug, Switzerland

Primary Role :

Global Commercial Lead will be responsible for the development and execution of the global product strategy and launch plans for neonatal products in the Internal Medicine franchise. This role is accountable for delivering the short-term and long-term financial and strategic product objectives for the product internationally, including accountability for achieving revenue, market share, and A&P expenditure targets. The role will have direct leadership responsibilities, including coaching and professional development, for the international marketing team, and will work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders across the organization (particularly Country Sales/Marketing Leadership, Market Access, Global Commercial Operations and Medical/Legal/Regulatory stakeholders) to define and deliver the key elements of the marketing strategy.

Global Commercial Lead will be a core member of the cross-functional Late Stage Product Team (LPT) which has overall responsibility and accountability for setting the strategic direction and managing the lifecycle of the product. In this capacity, the role will be responsible for providing input from the global commercial perspective into LPT decision making and is jointly accountable with other LPT members for defining and delivering LPT-level objectives, deliverables, and programs.

Responsibilities :


Develop and deliver short and long range integrated product strategies for the product in line with broader business objectives. Collaborate with regions / countries to align strategies (particularly prelaunch/launch plans); deliver financial objectives (revenue, market share, and A&P expense targets) for the product.


Develop and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with a broad range of key internal stakeholders, including, among others, Region Leads, Country GMs and Sales/Marketing leadership, Market Access, Global Commercial Operations, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, and Clinical Development & Medical Affairs in order to ensure delivery against commercial objectives and/or maximize the impact & effectiveness of resources supporting those objectives.


Manage performance, provide / guide development of skills and capabilities for direct reports, and directly / indirectly ensure the same for all members of the commercial team; resolve conflicts and facilitate changes required to the structure of the marketing team to ensure delivery against objectives and the agility needed to react quickly to marketing problems and opportunities.


Serve as a core member of the LPT, effectively representing the global commercial perspective in team decisions and collaborating across LPT functions in defining and delivering LPT-level objectives, deliverables and programs.


Ensure understanding and adherence by the commercial team to all relevant internal and external policies or guidelines that relate to the team’s activities and deliverables.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • BS/BA required, MBA preferred

  • Ten years of pharmaceutical commercial experience, including seven years of marketing experience

  • Experience / knowledge in hospital based products required

  • International product launch experience preferred

  • Neonatology, neurology or pediatric respiratory experience a plus

  • Demonstrated success in leading teams in a matrix environment

  • Demonstrated skills in marketing, strategy formulation, and complex cross-functional problem solving

  • Highly developed understanding of international promotional regulatory environments
