Divisional Vice President, Chief Economist

As the Head of Economics, you will lead a team of professionals providing timely economic and financial market analyses and forecasts of interest and use to the company. You will also be the primary spokesperson for the company on these topics for both internal and external audiences.

Key Responsibilities

· Communicate analyses/forecasts of the economy and financial markets, and especially their impacts on Abbott, to the board of directors, executive/senior management, and business units of the organization.

· Lead a team of economic professionals, along with development of staff through training and advancement.

· Collaborate with business leaders throughout the organization to provide expertise and advise on economic/financial market issues.

· Find new ways to apply economic/financial market analyses/forecasts to organization and business unit activity and risk assessments.

· Work closely with the other members of the Finance Controller’s Council in a collaborative way.

· Responsible for all output from Abbott Economics, including all forecasts and analyses (national, regional, and industry), especially those used in the company's business plan.

· Primary writer and/or editor of Abbott’s Economics’ publications.

· Spokesperson for Abbott on economic and financial market conditions and outlooks, and a frequent speaker to the media, as well as national and regional economic and industry meetings/conferences.

Key Success Factors

· Deep understanding of how economies, governments, the financial markets and businesses operate and interact across countries and Abbott key markets.

· Extensive skill sets with strong credential in business planning, pricing, market access and sizing, corporate strategy, competitive financial and enterprise risk management across value chain, in both quantitative modeling techniques and qualitative reasoning.

· Demonstrated ability in managing an effective portfolio and personnel in economic practices in a high visibility and complex business setting.

· Strong instinct and ability to initiate and craft value creation activities via applications of business economics for sustainable growth and margin improvement with clear financial outcomes.

· Demonstrated aptitude and experience in executive communication with key internal and external stakeholders.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to EVP & Chief Financial Officer; 7 direct reports

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Graduate degree (Ph.D. preferred) in economics (or a closely related field).

Experience: 15 or more years of related work experience, with increasing responsibility, in economics – at least five years in a business setting with preferred healthcare or CPG industry experience; Previous experience in a lead economist role a plus, as is experience in statistical/econometric methods, modeling, and forecasting.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

· Ability to communicate sometimes difficult economic/financial market concepts to non-economic business audiences.

· Excellent writing and editing skills.

· Ability to work successfully in a team setting as well as individually to accomplish a broad array of goals.

· Ability to work successfully on a number of projects simultaneously.

· Experience building and running econometric models, especially forecasting models.

· Experience managing teams of professionals.

· Significant high-level contacts in the business economics community

The base pay for this position is $207,300.00 – $414,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
