With our rapid growth, our team is ready to welcome an experienced and driven leader to join our commercial operations team to manage and oversee the successful planning and installation of large-scale commercial projects. The Commercial Superintendent will effectively manage construction of projects by working alongside the project manager and site leadership. The ideal candidate is someone with a construction background (electrical, solar installation, or HVAC), who can efficiently manage multiple projects and the relevant foremen simultaneously, and who has strong customer service skills. The candidate who will best fit this position should be willing and able to work alongside a diverse team; collaborating with others both inside and outside of our team, such as foremen, inspectors, subcontractors, project managers, and engineers.

Job Description

* This position requires travel. The ideal candidate would be located in Central Illinois.

*Pay range for this role is $85,000-$110,000 annually, depending on experience.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Reports to Senior Construction Manager

• Expected 90% or more time in the field, on sites, supporting and mentoring.

• Weekly scheduling of crews, ensure appropriate labor allocated.

• Timekeeping approvals

• Accurate data reporting (Labor hours spent by task)

• Oversight of classifications appropriate to job task

• Ensure smooth takeoff and landings of projects

• Teach and adhere to NRE tech spec

• Maintain and update project schedule, lead foremen to accurate and transparent 3-week look ahead schedules.

• Ensure adherence to labor hours budget

• Identify ways to improve work/life balance for craft workers

• Communicate daily with PM, Sr. CM, Safety Manager, and customers

• Be the site POC for issues and problem solving as needed

• Ensure all materials are on site in a timely manner, coordinate with Project Manager to procure materials within budget and per plan.

• Ensure daily documentation of safety sign in sheets, OSHA documentation, and other reports; confirm accuracy and compliance.

• Procure and distribute PPE as needed to employees and site visitors, ensure 100% safety compliance in all areas.

• Identify and implement changes in on-site strategy; with the goal of increasing efficiency, quality, and safety.

• Actively report updates to each project schedule based on status of construction, proactively identify solutions to schedule lag or disruption.

• Coordinate equipment for job site needs (NRE-owned and rented equipment)

• Oversee field teams’ growth and development, identify and mentor future leaders, ensure that employees are given ample opportunities to learn and to excel.

• Coordinate and review the completion of commissioning documentation

EDUCATION :

• High school diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE :

• 1-8 years of solar installation experience (required) 4+ years (strongly preferred)

• Electrical licensing (preferred)

• 3 years of large-scale project management or construction management experience (required)

• 2-5 years of managing commercial solar installations (strongly preferred)

• AutoCAD experience (preferred)

COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of all aspects/components of a commercial solar installation

• Ability to train/manage/develop employees

• Proven experience in managing a team of at least ten to complete tasks efficiently

• Strong organizational, attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills

• Proven demonstration of navigating fast-paced positions with the ability to adapt quickly to change

• Skills with a variety of hand/power tools and machinery

• Reliable transportation and tools necessary to complete installation tasks

• Capability to travel for project-specific work

• Comfortable working on rooftops of any height/pitch

• Time management

• Ability to lift, pull, and push materials to complete assigned job task

• Strong understanding of commercial & solar regulations

• Ability to meet hard and fast deadlines

• Strong teamwork skills

• Strong attention to detail

• A clean driving record and valid driver’s license
