Job Overview:

The Senior Principal Commissioning Engineer is tasked with solving unique and complex problems that broadly impact the business. They must proactively identify and solve the most complex problems that impact the Management and direction of the business. The Senior Principal Commissioning Engineer is considered a specialist in the field of Commissioning, and they offer a broad base of knowledge about the Engineering Function. The Senior Principal Commissioning Engineer impacts the direction and resource allocation of programs and projects in their discipline and works within general functional policies and industry guidelines. The Senior Principal Commissioning Engineer role requires conceptual and innovative thinking to develop creative solutions to Commissioning challenges.

Role will be responsible in managing Commissioning on ADNOC project. Role requires extensive commissioning experience in Oil & Gas industry, OPERCOM methodology, previous expereince in ADNOC shall be preferred and will be responsible in managing overall commissioning aspects of the project. This role requires ADNOC approval and is required immediately after CONTRACT award.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supporting the Commissioning Manager in the planning and execution of a safe and efficient Pre-commissioning, Commissioning, Start-up, and Performance Testing of the facility to achieve the plant’s production and performance objectives and Company (MDR) contractual objectives

  • Work collaboration within the Project team and with the Client to maintain positive relationships

  • Provide a back-up role to the Commissioning Manager and their absence

  • Supervise the implementation of the approved management and operational plan for the pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up of the plant through performance testing and plant acceptance

  • Define the commissioning team activities based on the agreed project scope of work

  • Assist in defining the manpower requirements of the home office and Site Commissioning activities

  • Develop pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and project completion schedules and supervise its implementation

  • Supervise the implementation of activities related to the pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, operation, and maintenance during the project

  • Supervise the development of pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up procedures

  • Participate in the review of engineering documentation during home office activities

  • Interface with Construction and the Client, as required

  • Supervise the activities of Sub-Contract, Supplier Servicemen, and Client personnel assigned to work under their supervision until plant acceptance

  • Participate in the development of the training program for all employees under their supervision and for Client personnel

  • Interface with all local agencies, as needed, to facilitate all required approvals and ensure the smooth and successful commissioning, start-up, and operation of the facility

  • Implement procedures to deliver the overall safety of the facility and its personnel

  • Provide input to the “lesson learned” database

Reports to:

Project: Project Commissioning Manager

Functional: Function Commissioning Manager

Liaise with: Commissioning Manager, Discipline Lead Engineers, Project Engineers, Project Engineering Managers, Project

Managers, Project Controls, Construction/Fabrication team, Quality, HSSE and Client designated representatives as required

Supervises: Commissioning Engineers, Completions Specialists, Operation & Maintenance specialists, Designers, and support

personnel within the function group

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering

  • 20+ years of experience in oil and gas with major contractors or consultant

  • Requires in-depth understanding of concepts, principles, and practices in commissioning, completions, and training as well as basic knowledge of other functions, such as construction and operations & maintenance

  • Applies understanding of the industry to improve effectiveness, provide guidance, and influence processes and policies

  • Preferably possess a B.S. or M.S. degree in either chemical or mechanical engineering

  • Significant role in at least three (3) major projects in the oil and gas or chemical process industry demonstrating technical broad knowledge of commissioning and start-up

  • Must have effective communication skills, and be able to establish confident relationships with discipline managers, technical engineers, and non-engineers. Presentation skills are required

  • Must have excellent computer software skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and other engineering software programs

  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be adaptable to the needs of various discipline groups

  • Must have the ability to assess and communicate project requirements and expectations in a clearly defined, positive, and productive manner

  • Capable of leading a commissioning project team

  • Willing and able to travel to construction sites on assignments to international sites

  • Proficiency in English, Multi-Language skills a plus
