Powell Industries, Inc. Lead Mechanical Assembler/ Production Lead in Acheson, Alberta

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead team members to ensure products are completed on scheduled dates.

  • Manage inputs and outputs in production process to ensure successful completion of projects on assigned dates.

  • Work closely with resources and other departments to resolve production issues as they arise.

  • Facilitate technical training of Senior Assemblers on product lines.

  • Co-ordinate with other department leads to accomplish project work to meet assigned dates in an efficient manner.

  • Continually drive improvements to increase production efficiencies.

  • Ensure projects are completed on time and all departments and customer requirements are met in a timely manner.

  • Provide direction and guidance to Senior Assemblers on writing Hold for Dispositions (HFDs).

  • Monitor production to ensure quality expectations and requirements are being maintained.

  • Ensure technical information is provided to Senior Assemblers and other team members in a timely matter.

  • Monitor work activities to ensure team is following and understand safety practices, policies and procedures.

  • Assign work to Senior Assemblers and other team members on a day-to-day basis to ensure departmental objectives are achieved.

  • Ensure daily requirements are being completed and accurate (i.e. tool box meetings, time entry, etc.).

  • Help communicate and enforce team member expectations, accountability and attitudes.

  • Oversee training plans for new hires and other team members as needed. Communicate progress or needs to Manufacturing Supervisor.

  • Provide performance feedback as required.

  • Other duties as required.

  • Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing and Execution System).

  • Demonstrated Reliability.

  • Ability to use and function with various computer programs as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.

  • Previous experience leading a team is preferred.

  • Basic to intermediate Microsoft Office applications skills (Work, Excel, Outlook).

  • Ability to effectively work in a team environment.

  • Due to the safety sensitive nature of this position successful candidates will undergo pre-employment substance abuse and medical testing upon hire.

Working Conditions

  • Temperature controlled working environment. Some outside activities may be required.

  • Must wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, safety glasses, safety footwear, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.

  • Must be able to work from all types of ladders. (Step ladders, “A” frame ladders, and all size extension ladders).

  • Job requires working in a manufacturing setting.

  • Working in from of a shop floor computer for part of the shift.

Physical Requirements

  • Maintaining body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.

  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs and the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner.

  • Standing, walking and speaking for long periods of time.

  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force up to 40 lbs.

  • Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.

  • Perceived size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with the fingertips.
