This Domestic Violence High Risk Team (DVHRT) Investigator II is responsible for enhancing the prosecution of high-risk domestic violence cases and to collaborate with the multi-disciplinary 17th Judicial District Domestic Violence High-Risk Team and law enforcement to ensure victim safety and offender accountability.

Performs a variety of semi-complex and complex investigations of felony and misdemeanor domestic violence related crimes for the Office of the District Attorney; assists Senior Investigators with investigations of complex crimes as assigned.

NOTE: This is a project-designated 18-month position for 40 hrs. per week. Full or partial funding for this position at the expiration of the initial 18 months is subject to the availability of grant funds. Positions funded by external grants may be subject to termination if the grant funding ceases. Positions funded by external grants will be reviewed by the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office for viability in the absence of grant funds.

Examples of Duties for Success

General Duties:

  • Conducts pre- and post-case filing investigations of high-risk felony and misdemeanor domestic violence cases on behalf of the District Attorney’s DVHRT.

  • Assists Deputy District Attorneys in follow-up work and investigation of cases, including interviewing victims/witnesses, writing thorough reports, serving witnesses with subpoenas, preparing search warrants, collecting and analyzing evidence, reviewing criminal histories, drafting arrest warrants and other tasks as needed to support DVHRT operations.

  • Conduct trainings with various stakeholders on the investigation and enhancement of domestic violence cases.

  • Serves “on call” at assigned times to assist the office in after-hours tasks. Locates necessary witnesses and victims to secure their cooperation with the prosecution of critical cases.

  • May travel throughout the metro area to serve personal legal process such as subpoena, summons, asset forfeitures, legal notices to witnesses & defendants of cases filed by the District Attorney. Further duties include establishing, as necessary, the location of persons to be served through standardized procedures (e.g. motor vehicle records, state employment records and utility records). Provides, on an as-needed basis, the transportation of witnesses to court appearances and in-office interviews.

Grant-Related Duties:

  • Collects statistical data related to goals, objectives, and measurable workload indicators to support grant narrative reports and outcomes.

To be successful, our candidate should have the following knowledge, skill, and abilities:

  • Possess a valid Colorado Driver's License and meet physical requirements set forth by Department of Motor Vehicle in obtaining and maintaining a Colorado driver's license.

  • Possess certification as a Colorado Peace Officer and minimally qualified as a marksman to established unit standards.

  • State law requires a physical examination and a psychological evaluation of an applicant be completed before an applicant may be appointed.

  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds

  • Ability to read, write and/or speak Spanish is desirable.

  • Physical Demands - Employees are required to

  • Ability to carry a firearm and qualify with the firearm on a quarterly basis

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time

  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs while maintaining proper balance

  • Ability to see near (2') and far (20') with or without the use of prescription eyewear

  • Capable of wearing personal protective equipment to include eye and ear protection

Work Environment – Employees may be exposed to or come in contact with:

  • Inclement weather conditions to include hot and cold temperature

  • High noise conditions (i.e. firearms range – Hearing Protection is required

Qualifications for Success

Experience: Five (5) years of previous law enforcement experience, to include prior domestic violence investigations.
