Job Summary

What’s the job?

As a Canadian HR/Safety Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with labor laws, safety regulations, and fostering a healthy work environment within the organization. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of HR functions with a primary focus on safety measures, employee welfare, and regulatory adherence.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in accordance with Canadian regulatory standards.

  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.

  • Coordinate safety training sessions for employees and managers to raise awareness and promote a culture of safety.

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence.

  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and authorities to ensure compliance with all safety regulations.

  • Stay updated on Canadian labor laws and regulations, ensuring all HR practices are compliant.

  • Oversee the recruitment process, including job postings, screening resumes, conducting interviews, and facilitating the selection process.

  • Manage employee relations, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance management.

  • Administer employee benefits programs and ensure accurate record-keeping.

  • Act as a point of contact for employees regarding HR-related inquiries, issues, and concerns.

  • Coordinate employee wellness programs and initiatives to promote physical and mental well-being in the workplace.

  • Facilitate employee development and training programs to enhance skills and career advancement opportunities.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures tailored to Canadian laws and organizational needs.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to safety incidents, HR transactions, and employee information.

  • Prepare reports and analysis related to HR metrics, safety performance, and compliance activities for management review.

  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations when handling sensitive employee information.

Required Qualifications

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, Business Administration, or a related field

  • 4+ years proven experience in HR and safety management

  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian labor laws, safety regulations, and best practices

  • Proven experience in a Unionized Industry

  • Proficiency in HRIS software and MS Office suite

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is Required

  • Canadian Certified Health and Safety Professional (CHSP) is Preferred

  • Canadian Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) is Preferred
