As a participant in the Co-op/Intern Professional Development Program, you will be cultivating professional skills and performing professional level work. You won’t just be sitting in meetings and shadowing all summer; you’ll be actively contributing and doing the same work as other FirstEnergy employees on your team. You’ll receive on-the-job training and challenging assignments. You will also be assigned a Supervisor, a Coach/Mentor and a dedicated IT Intern Program Coordinator to help you maximize your learning and growth throughout your summer… and beyond. Internships with FirstEnergy are full-time, paid opportunities spanning 14 weeks. You must be actively enrolled in an accredited university or college.
About the Corporate Security Compliance Specialist
The United States has 16 critical infrastructure sectors whose assets, systems, and networks—whether physical or virtual—are deemed so essential that their incapacitation or destruction would severely impact security, national economic security, public health, safety, or a combination of these areas. Almost every industry depends on electric power and fuels, making the protection of the energy infrastructure of vital importance. The Corporate Security group at FirstEnergy provides the operational and governance support necessary for that protection.
The Corporate Security Compliance Specialist supporting the Regulatory Compliance program at FirstEnergy develops, maintains, and supports the Physical Security Compliance Team with tasks related to NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance. Additionally, this position may support the business continuity program to meet regulatory and company requirements. This position is unique as it focuses on the professional and compliance aspects of corporate security.
Responsibilities of a Corporate Security Compliance Specialist:
Conduct research and interpret regulatory standards and policies to ensure Corporate Security business practices align with compliance requirements.
Document and maintain procedures related to physical security compliance.
Prepare evidence for regulatory audits and investigations.
Participate in internal assessments to ensure implemented compliance programs satisfactorily meet regulatory requirements.
Applicant Requirements:
Currently enrolled, full time, in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited university/college with a major in Business Administration or Management , Compliance , Business Continuity, Project Management or similar discipline
Class Standing – Rising Senior
Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 .
Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future)
Preferred Skills/Experience :
Must have strong interest in regulatory or corporate compliance
Must have a basic understanding of the development and review of business processes and procedures
Ideal Candidate
Able to compose well-written, professional documents and reports with minimal editorial and proofing support
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office line of products, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively participate on a team and in remote meetings and conference calls
Highly motivated to work independently and productively and learn quickly
Must be organized and work well with constant priority changes
Proven team player, contributes to team goals, encourages, and supports team members
Willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects
Organizational skills to prioritize and plan work, multi-task and meet schedules
Ability to work remotely, utilizing virtual technologies
Strong attention to detail
Strong technical writing skills
