SUMMARY: The Pharmacy Technician will work with collaboratively with department staff to perform pharmacy-related functions under the direct supervision of the licensed Supervising Pharmacist. Pharmacy technicians help pharmacists dispense prescription medication to clients and health professionals.

TECHNICAN ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

· Dispensing and verification of patient information to assure clients are receiving the correct prescriptions, review of current medications and record of updated allergies in the system to ensure patient safety

· Ensure that every prescription has been checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing to the patient.

· Locating prescription files and other manual records from storage as needed

· Prepare and file manual records for pharmacist signatures and review

· Regulatory & Operational Compliance – Proficient in all state and federal regulations ensuring compliance with the law, understands to follow all company operational policies and procedures

· Responsible for completing all mandatory and regulatory training programs

· Answer telephones to process refill requests and assist patients with any questions or concerns they may have

· To adhere strictly to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act/HIPAA regulations

· Inventory post-dated products and update in the ScriptPro system. Rotate drugs accordingly to dates (FIFO inventory system) and keep shelves clean

· Review and correct third party billing processes; reconcile with the ScriptPro and RPMS systems; follow up on insurance claim requests

· Manage appropriate inventory levels in ScriptPro; verify minimum and maximum quantities to insure proper ordering level

· Verify and maintain current pricing levels for drugs in the ScriptPro system; including newly acquired supplies for proper billing

· Process ten day returns in the ScriptPro system; refund the insurance company for the fill, add the product back into our inventory and return the product to the shelf

· Monitor refill requests to evaluate the timeliness of refill requests and processing

· Maintain non-drug supply inventory items such as paper, vials, caps and bags

· Update current insurance information in ScriptPro for proper billing

· Inventory upon receipt of hard copy prescriptions and create California files to organize the prescriptions based upon their prescription identifiers

· Compare vendor drug prices when creating orders daily and ensure required deliveries based on departmental need

· Filing invoices and sending original copies to the accounting office daily for payment processing

· Communicate with contracted vendors for filling outside prescriptions we do not carry, document delivered prescriptions and assist pharmacists with transferring of medications

· Verify invoices and identifying adhesives on products received daily to make sure there have been no overages or shortages; contact the vendor to resolve any variances

· Seal biohazard containers and communicate with maintenance regarding proper disposal

· Complete required documents for returns; print out papers and prepare items to be shipped

· Verify drug recall information based on type/brand/expiration/lot number; separate recalled inventory and complete necessary documentation; order replacement products

· Complete and manage electronic requisitions and assist in the submission of monthly and quarterly payments to vendors

· Assist with purchasing activity in the procurement process for acquiring pharmaceutical supplies

· Other related duties as assigned

CLERK ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

· Capability to assist patients at the pharmacy pickup window or the customer service window

· Scan and hand out prescriptions, sort and organize prescriptions, identify correct patient by asking for two identifiers such as date of birth, address, and telephone number

· To adhere strictly to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act/HIPAA regulations

· Answer phones to process refill requests and assist patients with any questions or concerns they may have

· Learn computer entry to determine if refills are available to patients

· Divert all counselling questions to the pharmacist on duty

· Help with inventory maintenance

· Process ten day returns in the Script Pro system; refund the insurance company for the fill, add the product back into inventory and return the product to the shelf

· Reports to Lead Pharmacy Technician for work schedule and days off to avoid conflicts

· Flexibility to work during various Health Service hours

· Capability to check prescriptions that are ready for pickup, monthly to ensure accuracy

· Assist with the refill request que to evaluate the timeliness of refill requests and processing

· Assist the pharmacist on duty with inputting, filling, insurance claims etc. when working Saturday shift

· Responsible for completing all mandatory and regulatory training programs.

· Other duties as assigned by Lead Pharmacy Technician or the Pharmacist on Duty

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisor requirements for this position.

TECHNICIAN EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

· High School Diploma or GED WITH

· 1-year experience as a Pharmacy Technician.

· Associates Degree or Higher preferred

· PTCB or other nationally recognized certification program is preferred.

CLERK EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

· High School diploma or GED WITH

· 1-year of experience in healthcare setting

· Applicant must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends. Flexible schedule is a must for this position.

· CPR/First Aid certified or willing to be certified within the first three months of work.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Execute the plan – able to learn and understand specific aspects of the pharmacy management system (i.e., reception and release to patient queues) as well as our POS system; follows instructions and completes tasks with a sense of urgency; responsible for daily department standards. Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have excellent computer skills including word, excel, and experience with varying databases.

Intermediate to advanced understanding of pharmacy technology – included is product dispensing, data entry and adjudication workflow step

The successful candidate must pass a medical screening, complete a PPD testing, and a current flu shot.

The successful candidate must pass a test for illegal substances, pass a criminal background check and be in good standing with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe prior to employment being confirmed.
