Title: Data Analytics Development Manager, Office of Higher Education in Prison
Reports to: Deputy Director, Office of Higher Education in Prison
Position Overview:
The Data Analytics Development Manager will work with the Office of Higher Education in Prison team to operationalize data to support the office, as well as design and conduct research aimed at understanding and improving the State University of New York's (SUNY's) higher education opportunities for the incarcerated and formerly incarcerated population. Research will include maintaining, analyzing, and improving an administrative data system that links education and corrections information; building and managing an internal database that tracks program outcomes for OHEP's growing portfolio of programs, including services to students in re-entry; and working with the team to develop other research projects designed to improve services and outcomes for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals.
Responsibilities:
Work with the OHEP team, campus program administrators, and staff to design and execute research projects and analyze/interpret data on higher education programs serving incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people.
Produce reports, charts, tables, interactive dashboards, and presentations synthesizing research and assessment findings, and presenting findings to SUNY leadership, the SUNY higher education in prison (HEP) community of administrators and faculty, and other stakeholder groups as needed.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive internal database of SUNY Higher Education in Prison programs and students to support OHEP's efforts to expand and improve services.
Update, manage, organize, and analyze administrative data linking individuals, programs, and processes, including education data from:
SUNY SIRIS
The National Student Clearinghouse,
Corrections data from the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) and the federal Bureau of Prisons,
Employment data from the New York State Department of Labor,
and other data sources as appropriate.
Discuss data findings, create individualized dashboards, and other data tracking tools specific to higher education in prison programs with SUNY campuses to support data-driven decision-making.
Participate in cross-functional teams to develop data-informed strategies for program development and improvement.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Required Education/Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and at least three years of work experience in research and/or data analytics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Extensive experience with query languages or data analysis tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, Oracle Analytics, etc.
Knowledge and understanding on using Microsoft Access and/or Oracle databases
Experience working with and analyzing administrative data, especially higher education data.
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience working with and manipulating relational databases and data sets.
Ability to communicate data procedures and analytics to a variety of audiences. Skilled in presenting and displaying data and communicating findings in reports and presentations.
Preferred Education/ Qualifications:
Master's degree
Demonstrated experience working with data definitions, data dictionaries, and data standards.
Strong organizational and follow-through skills to develop and execute work plans, prioritize work, manage multiple evaluation and/or research projects, and meet program demands and deadlines.
Salary Range- The compensation for this role is between $80,000 to $85,000. The pay will depend on a variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, education, training, and certifications.
