Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill a Mental Health Program Specialist 2, Grade 23, position in the Division of Forensic Services (DFS), Mental Health/Criminal Justice Collaboration Unit. This Unit provides support and technical assistance including suicide prevention and mental health treatment in local correctional facilities, appropriate mental health training for criminal justice staff whose jobs bring them in contact with persons who are mentally ill, alternatives to incarceration, community mental health provider skill enhancement and training, and curriculum development and training facilitation in collaboration with state and local agencies. The Unit also oversees and implements the Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) and the Mobile Access Program (MAP). The incumbent of this position will participate in the planning, organization, and delivery of trainings to local law enforcement and jail personnel. Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to, the following:Participate in the development of curricula; develop new training initiatives; modify existing programs based on an assessment of program needs.Provide technical assistance in developing and updating training policies and manuals.Evaluate effectiveness of training and identify and assess training needs. Oversee contract administration and the hiring of vendors with expertise in forensics, law enforcement, jail diversion, and Crisis Intervention Team initiatives. Provide fiscal and administrative oversight for training-related contracts by assisting with contract development, including solicitation and administration of requests for proposals.Present training courses by obtaining outside instructors or personally conducting courses and selecting audiovisual teaching aids.Review outside instructor’s lesson plans to ensure consistency with course outlines.Prepare lesson plans for those courses conducted personally.Disseminate training announcements and information concerning educational opportunities.Statewide travel is required for this position.
