As a member of the workforce planning team, the Senior Classification and Compensation Analyst will play a critical role in ensuring fair and equitable compensation practices within the University at Albany. Responsibilities will include researching, implementing, and overseeing our pay structure. Collaborating closely with departments and leadership, this position will provide strategic support for compensation, classification, and recruitment strategies. Additionally, this position will work collaboratively with other University offices to address recruitment needs, particularly focusing on faculty and higher-level professional positions while maintaining responsibility for all professional appointments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Determine appropriate classification and compensation for positions under the UUP professional bargaining unit and positions classified as Management/Confidential using data analysis to inform decisions.

  • Collect and research data and analyze position descriptions to determine appropriate grade level and title per SUNY classification standards. Work in partnership with departments to ensure that position duties are written to meet program needs. Provide feedback and recommendations.

  • Determine appropriate salary ranges based on position compensable factors, market data, and campus practices and use data to make recommendations.

  • Review requests for salary and position changes for current employees and determine appropriate action. Use data to make informed decisions and recommendations in hiring, promoting, and making salary adjustments.

  • Work in partnership with division leadership regarding position classification and salary to ensure recommendations are supported by funding. Ensure recruitment activities support a diverse and equitable workforce and create/foster a welcoming, inclusive work environment.

  • Assist departments with organizational structure making recommendations based on classification and comps.

  • Review and revise job descriptions making recommendations as to classification and language to departments and assisting departments with their overall recruitment requests.

  • Review overall employee compensation structure and make recommendations to HR leadership on models that provide fair and equitable compensation, forecast employment needs and gaps, and work with leadership on an overall recruitment and retention strategy. Work with leadership and contribute to the creation and accomplishment of WFP goals including assisting with data metrics to drive efficiencies and inform decisions. Increase use of data analytics; use researched and collected information to guide decision making; forecast gaps in talent and strategize with departments to address those gaps.

  • Manage completion and submission of the annual CUPA salary survey. Match UAlbany positions to survey title codes, normalize data per instructions and compile institutional data.

  • Review and analyze positions against the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) in the recruitment process and then overall for existing positions to ensure compliance. Develop and implement a plan to assess FLSA compliance and ensure positions receive the appropriate analysis and exemption.

  • Manage the University's Applicant Tracking system. Train primary users, troubleshoot issues, and maintain access. Assist in training end users and assigning permissions.

  • Engage in recruitment activities that bolster the applicant talent pool through collaborations with departments to assist in identifying their needs. Ensure all marketing and communication efforts include inclusive language. Creatively and strategically market open positions via available means such as social media, the UA website, popular job search websites, alumni networks, job boards specifically geared toward positions in higher education, and social media platforms. Participate in internal and external community engagement events to raise awareness of UA as an employer of choice.

  • Ensure compliance with bargaining agreements and federal, state, and local law. Assist departments with understanding and navigating rules and regulations regarding classification and compensation and the search process.

  • Other reasonable duties as assigned. If assigned supervisory duties: Provide leadership, oversight, and direction to direct reports to ensure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the Institution's goals and strategies. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication. Complete performance management feedback and goals per requirements.

  • Ability to occasionally work extended hours as necessitated during peak volume periods, typically near the start of the fall academic semester.

  • Ability to comprehend classified services as part of the overall workforce planning processes.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and develop and maintain collegial working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels and with varied backgrounds and experiences.

  • Ability to effectively communicate to resolve complex and/or sensitive issues in a respectful, collaborative, and equitable manner.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.

  • Demonstrated experience effectively communicating with various levels within a diverse organization.

  • Demonstrated effective communication skills in navigating complex and sensitive matters resulting in collegial and collaborative interactions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in compensation and classification as a data analyst in higher education.

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Data Analytics or related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • Human Resources certification and/or compensation certification.
