New York State Energy Research and Development Aut Sr Project Manager, Multifamily Residential in Albany, New York

NYSERDA works with stakeholders that span residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that:

  • Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy.

  • Overcome barriers to using clean energy at a large-scale in New York.

  • Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably from energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Job Overview

The Senior Project Manager will join NYSERDA’s Clean and Resilient Buildings group as part of the Multifamily Residential team. The Multifamily team works across New York State to support customer adoption of energy efficiency and electrification by developing and implementing programs that overcome market barriers, encourage private capital investment, and facilitate the process of planning and implementing low carbon retrofits.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead Engagement with Solution Providers and End Use Customers

  • Working closely with Multifamily team leadership, develop and implement programs that enable high quality decarbonization retrofits to be deployed at scale across NYS.

  • Lead solution provider engagement, including review of provider capabilities, analysis of business models, and relationship development across the value chain of relevant decarbonization technologies.

  • Develop program pipeline with end-use customers, including real estate portfolio owners, property management firms, nonprofit housing associations, small landlords and tenants.

  • Identify barriers and pursue opportunities to scaling solutions across the Multifamily sector.

  • Act as a team and thought leader of cross-company and interdepartmental working groups on complex and/or sensitive assignments.

  • Over time, lead, manage, coach, and develop a team of junior staff.

Project Management

  • Oversee multiple competing projects, including scope development, contract negotiation, ongoing project management, reporting and communications.

  • Provide assertive project management, including resolving issues to drive the process forward and proactively communicating with program participants, internal stakeholders and senior leadership.

  • Demonstrate good judgment and understanding of when to escalate issues.

Program Strategy and Market Engagement

Work with program team and collaboratively with other NYSERDA Teams and partners to develop strategies for driving clean energy investments and design/execute programmatic efforts to support these strategies and support the dissemination of lessons learned in real time to the market.

  • Cultivate and strengthen strategic relationships with key stakeholders in the NYS multifamily building retrofit industry.

  • Represent NYSERDA at meetings and events with external stakeholders, including in public forums and speaking engagements; present information on NYSERDA’s behalf at professional meetings, conferences and workshops.

  • Work with market stakeholders to find the most cost-effective strategies to enable decarbonization, reduce energy usage and demand.

  • Engage with leading actors across the value chain to attract new investment in decarbonization retrofits that serve the Multifamily residential sector of New York State.

  • Work with other NYSERDA teams to promote effective cross-collaboration on overlapping program efforts.

  • Pursue program process improvements, working with the team to ensure tasks are done efficiently.

  • Support the Multifamily team as needed on special assignments or special projects.

  • Ability to perform all managerial and supervisory responsibilities with demonstrated experience fostering respect, diversity, equity and inclusion across the workforce.

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned, including supporting timely responsiveness to executive-level requests.

Required Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • At least six years of experience working in the building decarbonization space, with a strong understanding of building energy systems and technologies as well as energy efficiency and decarbonization approaches.

  • Strong working knowledge of the multifamily sector, including the investment decision-making process.

  • Genuine passion for issues related to energy, environment, and climate equity.

  • Exemplary project management skills with the ability to set priorities, develop and execute on a workplan, and an action-bias to deliver activity in the market.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability with a proactive and collaborative style.

  • Exceptional organizational, time management and planning skills to successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability and appetite to learn and assimilate new information and think holistically through complex problems with technical and non-technical components.

  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with other teams.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Ability and willingness to travel across New York State.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree, and at least 7 years of experience in building energy efficiency, clean energy solution deployment or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree, particularly in engineering, public or business administration, architecture, real estate, urban planning or a related field, and 6 years’ experience in building energy efficiency, clean energy solution deployment or a related field.

  • Project management or energy management certification (PMP, CEM, etc.).
