New York is leading the nation in the fight on global climate change and the transition to a clean energy-powered economy. The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act) has created the most aggressive climate change goals in the nation and requires an ambitious agenda that blends proven catalysts with innovative approaches while operating across a broader energy arena that is rapidly evolving. New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a driving force in realizing this agenda. NYSERDA works with stakeholders that span residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that:

  • Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy.

  • Overcome barriers to using clean energy at a large-scale in New York.

  • Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably from energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Job Overview

Energy storage is critical to achieving the Climate Act’s ambitious goals, and New York is poised to become a market leader with the June 2024 PSC approval of the Energy Storage Roadmap authorizing NYSERDA to procure 3,000 megawatts of bulk energy storage in support of the state target of 6,000 megawatts of storage deployed by 2030. NYSERDA’s new Bulk Energy Storage (BES) Program, housed within NYSERDA’s Large-Scale Renewables (LSR) team, will utilize innovative incentive mechanisms that are modeled after other LSR programs but are a first-of-its-kind for energy storage.

The BES team is seeking a project manager/senior project manager, ideally with energy industry knowledge and experience, to manage the contracting process from development to negotiation to execution and management. • Systematically analyze project data, identify potential project delays, and develop key findings/recommendations at various project development stages regarding contractual or other actions that NYSERDA may consider

  • Interact with relevant stakeholders to identify and address issues associated with successful project development, including regulators, utilities, system planners/operators

  • Prepare reports or other briefing materials describing individual project development progress and/or overall portfolio progress

  • Ensure that NYSERDA’s counterparty and the contracted project remain in compliance with contract terms and conditions

  • Prepare contracting action recommendations such as contract modifications for legal counsel and senior management consideration

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

  • Ability to perform all managerial and supervisory responsibilities with demonstrated experience fostering respect, diversity, equity and inclusion across the workforce.
