You may also view the full position description on the Agency intranet at the following link: PD Search The Hearing Office Director (HOD) serves as the principal management adviser to the Hearing Office Chief Administrative Law Judge (HOCALJ) and participates significantly with the HOCALJ in the overall management and administration of the office. The HOD is responsible for administering the hearings level of claims processing for all programs of the Social Security Administration and also for the Health Care Financing Administration within a large designated service area. The HOD provides first and second line supervision for the employees with the assistance of two or more subordinate supervisors. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include reviewing claims under Titles II, XVI, and/or XVIII of the Social Security Act; planning, directing, reviewing and/or supervising the work of others; communicating orally and in writing with a variety of contacts in governmental and non-governmental organizations; conducting studies and preparing analysis or evaluations relating to management, organizational issues, administrative systems, or operating procedures; writing policies or procedures relating to government programs. Qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Applicants for promotion must have 52 weeks at GS-13. The best-qualified list for this vacancy may be used to fill the same or similar positions in a component(s) under the same Deputy Commissioner. Additional selections may be made within 6 months of the date the best qualified list is issued. AREA OF CONSIDERATION: Current permanent employees in the Office of Hearings Operations Nationwide. Applications for noncompetitive consideration will be accepted from SSA employees in the area of consideration who are currently serving under the following types of appointments: Schedule A, Reg. 213.3102 (U) appointments for individuals with disabilities; and time limited appointments for veterans with a compensable service-connected disability of 30% or more. Applicants serving under these provisions do not need to submit copies of your disability or Veteran's documentation. However, you must submit a current SF-50 that provides information on the appointment authority under which you were hired. Otherwise, you will not receive non-competitive consideration. NOTE: Excepted service employees serving under Schedule A appointments for Attorney positions or Pathways Programs appointments (Presidential Management Fellows, Recent Graduates, and Interns) are not eligible for consideration. LOCALITY PAY: Salary will be set in accordance with locality pay provisions. Candidates currently receiving a higher locality pay than the office applied for are advised that should they be selected, they will lose entitlement to the higher locality pay. OTHER NOTES: This is not a career ladder position; GS-14 is the full performance level. Selected employee is subject to the completion of a 1-year probationary period for a supervisory position unless the employee served in such a position before August 11, 1979, or has completed one.
