Overall Summary:
The Supervisor, Protection & Control oversees and trains the technicians responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical protection and control systems within substations for Duquesne Light's transmission and distribution networks. They ensure field crews follow safety protocols, project timelines, compliance regulations, and technical specifications while coordinating with engineering teams to resolve technical issues. This role requires strong leadership, technical aptitude, and the ability to manage multiple projects across various locations.
Location: Raccoon Service Center, Aliquippa PA
Job Responsibilities:
Ensure safe work practices and oversee training criteria for Protection & Control technicians in the Substation department.
Plan, schedule, and supervise the daily work activities of employees in the Substation Protection & Control department and establish and maintain performance measures to optimize productivity.
Oversee substation relay preventative maintenance programs.
Ensure Protection & Control group’s adherence to regulatory and compliance standards.
Oversee and support substation equipment testing, repairs, and replacements.
Analyze failures and collaborate with substation support groups to determine extent of damage and estimated outage duration, including the ability to direct repair work to minimize down time.
Ensure department is outfitted by procuring procedures, tools, test equipment, parts, vehicle, etc. necessary for daily activities.
Ensure work practices and procedures in the department are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Associates or Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited university or college required.
Associate Degree in electronics from an approved school with 5+ years of experience in the electric utility field operations environment with a concentration in substation protection and control will be considered.
A combination of education and experience in related fields will also be considered.
Five (5+) or more years of related experience required.
Managerial or supervisory experience preferred.
Valid driver’s license required.

Ability to balance competing priorities and continually meet deadlines.

Scope:
Primary focus is on day-to-day management of operational execution for areas managed. Trains and develops staff. Plans the workflow. Directs available resources to accomplish process improvement. Leads workflow changes and implementations for direct team.
Decision Impact:
Problems and issues are undefined require detailed info gathering, analysis, and investigation to understand/resolve. Makes decisions that address workflow issues considering immediate impact on own function or work unit.
Hybrid Work
Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
Storm Roles
All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset.
