Job Description:
Cooke Power Services is seeking a skilled Relay Technician to join our team in Amarillo, TX. The Relay Technician will be responsible for testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting protective relays and related equipment in power systems. This role is critical to ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Test, calibrate, and maintain protective relays used in high-voltage electrical systems. Troubleshoot and repair relay systems, including electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based relays. Perform routine testing and commissioning of relays, transformers, circuit breakers, and other protective equipment. Conduct diagnostic testing on relays to identify faults and ensure proper system operation. Read and interpret electrical schematics, diagrams, and manuals to perform maintenance and repairs. Document and report testing results, equipment conditions, and recommended repairs or upgrades. Ensure all work is performed in compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies. Collaborate with engineers and other technical staff to resolve complex issues and support system upgrades. Stay updated on new technologies and advancements in relay protection systems.
Qualifications:
2+ years of experience as a relay technician or in a similar role working with high-voltage systems. Strong understanding of protective relays, their functions, and their importance in power system protection. Proficient in using testing equipment such as relay test sets, multimeters, and oscilloscopes. Ability to read and interpret complex electrical diagrams and schematics. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of safety practices related to high-voltage electrical systems. Willingness to travel to various job sites as needed.
