GREATER IOWA CREDIT UNION Accountant III in Ames, Iowa
We are currently seeking an Accountant III to support the finance and accounting operations of the credit union through maintenance of accounting records and reports. Accounting and finance duties are to be performed in accordance with credit union regulatory standards.
Location: 1509 Baltimore Dr., Ames, IA 50010
Hours: Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm
- Supports the finance and accounting operations of the credit union through maintenance of accounting records and reports. Performs accounting duties in accordance with GAAP and credit union accounting practices.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly financial reports for the ALCO committee, regulatory reports such as the Call Report, and updating ALM software.
- Performs requested outgoing wire transactions and posts incoming wires according to credit union procedural guidelines.
- Reconciles accounts, posts to and balances general and subsidiary ledgers.
- Compiles segments of monthly closings such as accruals and prepares various monthly and annual reports, including some reporting to outside agencies.
- Backup to post and reconcile ACH, backup to post and reconcile correspondent bank accounts, post and balance debit card and ATM settlements, and daily review and correction of any trial balance, general and subsidiary ledger discrepancies.
- Maintain fixed asset register including deletions and reconciliations.
- Backup Accounts Payable including all functions from verifying approvals to printing checks and filing documentation and sales, use, and withholding tax filings.
- Backup for various other accounting functions and reconciliations.
- Prepare unclaimed property reports and reconciliations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.
Education: A college degree.
Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
Other Skills
- Must be able to operate a 10 key calculator and computer keyboard by touch.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Proven record of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task.
