Certified Payroll Practitioner (CPP).
Payroll experience in a complex university organization.
Experience and training in Workday, ADP, Kronos, UltiPro, or other payroll system

Summary
Iowa State University and the Payroll Department is seeking candidates for a Senior Manager Payroll position. We are seeking an energetic and motivated professional interested in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This position will lead and direct all payroll critical activities involved in processing the University’s multi-state payroll to: ensure that all payroll payments are made in an accurate and timely manner; develop and maintain checks and balances and segregation of duties; use discretionary judgement and experience to plan and accomplish divisional and institutional goals.
This position will be responsible for managing payroll staff by providing appropriate training, education, and career development opportunities; developing and maintaining a high level understanding of domestic and international payroll laws as well as wage levy and garnishment regulations; working collaboratively with internal tax professionals to ensure accurate and timely payment of all state and federal tax withholding and preparation of payroll tax returns; creating strong relationships with university departments and external peer groups; building out the payroll function for the University within the Workday platform; ensuring the payroll configuration adheres to all University, state and federal regulations.
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of payroll operations and the ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of individuals with a high level of professionalism. Must have tact, effective listening and speaking skills, and the ability to articulate the needs of the university to other team members. Must have strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage and meet strict deadlines efficiently.
This position offers the opportunity for hybrid work but does require the employee to reside in the state of Iowa on or before the start of employment.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
