Summary The Department of the Interior is devoted to protecting and preserving the natural resources of this great nation, including National Parks, Landmarks, and the well-being of communities, including those of Native American, Alaska Natives and affiliated Islanders. Responsibilities This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of the Secretary (OS); Office of the Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management and Budget (PMB); Office of Subsistence Management (OSM), located in Anchorage, AK. At the full performance level GS-15 the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Manages the day-to-day operations of OSM. Supervises, plans, organizes, and directs staff. Plans, assigns, and reviews work methods; evaluates work performance and develops performance standards; advises, counsels, and instructs subordinates on substantive administrative matters; interviews job applicants and recommends the appointment, promotion, and reassignment of subordinates; hears and resolves complaints; affects minor disciplinary measures; and identifies and arranges for the fulfillment of training needs. Manages multiple priorities, important, and/or high visibility complex actions/projects working simultaneously which require timely decisions, briefing/answering concerns of department level policy/decision makers, and synchronization or coordination of the work of subordinate supervisors/units. Exercises authority delegated by the Director to make decisions, with the understanding that certain critical issues/decisions require discussion with and final approval by the Director. The Deputy bases decisions on understanding of the Director's vision, strategy, direction, priorities, goals, opinions, and intentions and is generally responsible for the immediate and shorter-term operations of the OSM. Directs, guides, and works with OSM staff to provide technical guidance and assistance to field stations throughout the state of Alaska. Uses a thorough knowledge of the Headquarters programs and senior leaders' vision, focus, priorities, etc. to translate national program guidance into effective policy and annual work plan formulation to best serve Alaska's needs. Serves as Group Federal Officer as required by the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA). Completes the Annual FACA Comprehensive Report. Leads the implementation and use of the FACA database. Provides guidance to RACs, Designated Federal Officers (DFOs) in OSM on matters related to FACA. The Office of the Secretary (OS) has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. Salary Information GS-14: $138,035 - $179,448 per annum First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level. See http://www.sss.gov/. Qualifications Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position you must meet the (2) Specialized Experience for the series/grade to which you are applying. Specialized Experience To qualify for the GS-14, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) Coordinating a program across multiple organizational units such as departments, bureaus, offices; 2) Leading teams and collaborating with other experts on projects to achieve organizational goals; AND 3) Compiling and coordinating federal register actions.
