Project Manager / Operations Manager

Within a Region, the Project Manager / Operations Manager manages operations to ensure all activities are in compliance with safety, and customer policies. This position works closely with the Region Manger to develop operating plans and oversee crew operations. The Project Manager / Operations Manager works with his or her Region Manager and other Managers in the Region to execute a local market strategy that complements the Region's strategic operating goals and implements tactical initiatives to drive functional excellence and budget achievement. The Project Manager / Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing several independent Vegetation Management contracts (Transmission, Distribution, and Substation clearance) with P & L responsibility. The position oversees all matters related to the operation and oversees effective safety and accident prevention programs and leads all operations to ensure compliance with standards; and drives change management initiatives to introduce and sustain new processes that contribute to the growth and durability of the operations within the Region.

Job Type : Full-Time, Exempt

Pay : $95,000-$115,000/yr. w/ bonus potential DOE

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management and oversight of project contracts including bid process, identifying upcoming contract obligations, developing dispute resolution options, and assisting in contract final closure.

  • Manages project budget and accurately forecasts project cost to complete.

  • Reviews the design of utility construction projects; directs the preparation and/or review of plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts for assigned projects.

  • Manages cash flows and final project costs, variances, and corrective actions.

  • Responsible for staff including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.

  • Proactively identify risks, monitor project status, recognize negative trends and project variances, and coordinate corrective action.

  • Manage relationship with all outside contractors, customers, and vendors.

  • Lead operations teams to ensure compliance with all standards, policy, safety, and ethics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (Spanish) a large plus.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Able to direct large staff.

  • Project management certification by a recognized organization. such as the Project Management Institute is a plus. (PMP)

  • Creative thinker who challenges regular solutions.

  • Strong skill set around budgeting, cost control, scheduling, reporting, and writing skills experience.

  • Familiarity with electric utility equipment and processes a plus.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Customer interface experience.

  • Has a strong judge of character and can develop high performance teams

  • Strong written, oral, presentation, and organizational skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products.

Education & Experience

  • 2+ years of leadership experience including fleet management and project management (tracking, P&L responsibility), detailed contract management, and overseeing crew-based operations.

  • B.S. in a related field preferred.

Pre-Screen

  • Driver's License Required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Rarely: walking, kneeling, squatting, crawling, seeing distant, climbing on/off truck, climbing, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., depth perception, color vision, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, balancing, lifting up to 10 lbs., lifting up to 50 lbs.

Safety

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
