Job Title:Mechanic

Hourly Rate: Mechanic, $28.88/hour plus $0.55/hour shift premium.

  • Electrical Specialty, $31.40 once qualified
  • Electrician with Machinist qualifications, $33.25

This position is on 3rd shift running 3:15 p.m 11:45 p.m. with opportunities for daily and/or weekly overtime.

Job Summary:

Install, repair and maintain machinery and equipment specific to the operations, in accordance with blue prints, schematic drawings, operations manuals, and manufacturers specifications. Diagnose malfunctions in production machinery and equipment. Services, repairs and replaces defective parts. Lubricates machinery and performs other routine maintenance on production machinery.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Repairs and maintains, in accordance with diagrams, operation manuals, and manufacturers specifications, plant machinery and mechanical equipment specific to the operation.
  • Analyzes and diagnoses production machinery and equipment malfunctions; services, repairs and replaces defective parts using hand tools and power tools and starts machines/equipment to test their performance.
  • Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by operating and repairing equipment in a safe and efficient manner to minimize risk to personnel and damage to equipment and inventory.
  • Maintains sanitary conditions while performing work.
  • Calibrates and makes adjustments on production machinery and equipment to improve operational capabilities using hand tools.
  • Provides technical assistance to the production department in set-up and changeover of production equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on machinery and equipment and documents tasks performed in preventive maintenance records.
  • Identifies ways to improve production methods by observing work processes and working with line personnel.
  • Modifies machinery and equipment as directed by Engineering Department to improve functional performance.
  • Rebuilds and installs functional parts of production machinery.
  • Collaborates with outside vendors to enhance in-house maintenance capabilities.
  • Confers with and assists Engineering Department in implementation and modification of maintenance programs.
  • Maintains and services the external components of the dust collection system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned not an essential function.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Mechanical aptitude, including a basic understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanical and piping systems and the ability to identify and understand mechanical components and their relationship in a mechanism in order to make repairs or improvements.
  • Knowledge of various machines, their operation and parts; and skill in using work-related tools including their design, benefits, repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety rules and precautions of various mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Performs math operations to solve work-related problems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems associated with work processes by applying job specific knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, train and instruct new mechanics and operators, as well as work with the Engineering Dept. in developing new machinery.
  • Ability to read and understand various set up/operational diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and manufacturing specifications as it relates to plant machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work as a productive member of a team.
  • Ability to organize and work on multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to deal effective y with persons representing widely divergent backgrounds, interests, and points of view.

Education and Training:

  • Possess high school diploma or GED.
  • Must obtain forklift certification within 60 days after starting job.
  • Prior industrial maintenance experience helpful.
  • Individual must pass required maintenance testing and demonstrate hands on ability and or knowledge in the following areas: hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, power transmissions, lubrication, pumps, pipe rigging, mechanical maintenance, operation of shop machines, use of work-related tools, combustion, motors, schematics and print reading, basic AC and DC theory.
  • On-site training specific to job responsibilities.
  • Prior industrial maintenance experience preferred

Equipment, Tools, Machinery Used/Operated:

Tools:Various hand tools including wrenches, pliers, hammers, screw drivers, file, various power tools, saws, welding equipment, meters and measuring devices, battery charger/changer, welder (tig, stick), plasma cutter, personal computer and other technology developed that may be required to meet operational needs.

Machines: Forklift, pallet jack, aerial lift, stand up

Protective Clothing and Devices:

Many of the job duties of these positions require you to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), if so, when and how to use this equipment will be explained to you at the time of hire.

To determine ability to perform job functions where the use of a respirator is required, employees will be given a physical examination prior to performing this type of work.

Maintenance with Electrical Specialty additional duties include:

Installs and repairs electrical systems, control and power distribution system components and circuits for single and three phase systems, following manuals, diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications using hand tools, power tools and electrical and electronic test equipment.

Plans layout, installs, maintains, repairs or replaces wiring and wires electrical fixtures, control panels, and equipment, etc.

Tests and diagnoses malfunctioning systems, components, and apparatus using test equipment, and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables, using hand tools.

Diagnoses, repairs or replaces faulty electrical and electronic components and circuitry in machines and equipment, that include, but is not limited to relays, switches, transformers, motors, bearings, rewires motors, positions sensing devices and electronic components such as printed circuit boards, etc., and tests components to verify repairs.

Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing equipment such as ohmmeter, voltmeter, and oscilloscope.

Inspects systems and electrical parts to detect hazards, defects, and need for adjustments or repair.

Installs circuitry for support systems.

Installs and connects power supply wiring and conduit to plant machines and equipment.
