Job Summary

The College of Engineering (CoE) Honors Program identifies highly talented students who demonstrate strong academic ability, intellectual curiosity, and clear potential to make a difference as leaders in their field. As the CoE Honors Academic Advisor & Record Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting these students. Reporting to the Associate Director of Honors & Engagement Programs, you will ensure that students meet the program's requirements and handle related administrative tasks.

Responsibilities*

Advise and Support Students:

  • Meet with students to discuss focus areas, select minors, and guide them through the process of developing a capstone project

  • Ensure all Engineering Honors Program requirements are met and discuss post-university opportunities.

  • Build relationships with departments to provide students with creative solutions and unique opportunities available to them across the College and University.

  • Assist students in achieving academic, personal, and professional success.

Manage Administrative Tasks:

  • Track student progress and manage communications regarding focus area and capstone proposals.

  • Maintain student records and program data; contribute to the annual report and produce ad hoc reports.

  • Input student audit exceptions for program completion into the electronic academic audit system.

Support the Engineering Honors Program:

  • Collaborate with the Director and Associate Director to support program development and implement advising enhancements.

  • Serve on the Honors and EGL admissions committee.

  • Coordinate with Design Expo staff to showcase Honors Capstone projects.

  • Represent the program at prospective student events and present at information sessions.

  • Perform miscellaneous tasks supporting the College of Engineering and University of Michigan's mission.

Required Qualifications*

  • For Academic Advisor Intermediate: Bachelor's Degree with 2+ years of advising or counseling experience in higher education OR a Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.

  • For Academic Advisor Associate: Bachelor's Degree with 1+ years of advising or counseling experience in higher education.

  • Skills and Attributes:

  • Enthusiasm for working with a diverse student population.

  • Commitment to creating an environment that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Understanding of the advising needs of high-achieving students.

  • Experience with record-keeping and databases.

  • Ability to handle confidential issues.

  • Availability for occasional events after 5pm and on weekends.

Modes of Work

For the Winter 2025 semester, this will be an onsite position, which requires a fully onsite presence. After the Winter 2025 semester, this will be a hybrid position and can work remotely several days per week. Office space is shared with advisors alternating in-person and remote days.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate, this position may be filled at the Intermediate or Associate level.

Associate level salary range: $50,000 - $54,000

Intermediate level salary range: $56,000 - $64,000
