Responsibilities*

Basic Function and Responsibility

Technologist performs data collection and management of HPC and BMT date reporting. Responsibilities include the performance of highly technical and complex cellular and immunotherapeutic procedures which include but not limited to: cell separation, cryopreservation, quantification and characterization of products for bone marrow transplant and other immunotherapeutic procedures for clinical use

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Collect and report data for on-going process monitoring.

  2. Prepare reports for BMT Program, Quality Management and Compliance.

  3. Process HPC, Apheresis, HPC, Marrow and other cellular products by various methods.

  4. Perform tests using SOP involving multiple methodologies.

  5. Perform specialized techniques such as, T cell depletion, CD34 selection and other new technologies as they arise.

  6. Perform cellular therapy product counts and report results to appropriate individuals.

  7. Prepares cellular therapy products for cryopreservation and storage in liquid nitrogen.

  8. Thaw cryopreserved products and assists with the re-infusion.

  9. Set up OR for HPC, Marrow harvest, assist as scrub tech during the harvest and prepare HPC, Marrow bags with proper labeling.

  10. Receive, inspect, sort and check in samples.

  11. Detect, trouble shoot and correct equipment, reagent and system failures.

  12. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment.

  13. Perform preventative quality control and quality assurance duties.

  14. Participate in continuous improvement activities.

  15. Maintain a database of components that can be discarded or used for research purposes.

  16. Follows institution safety procedures.

  17. Participate in annual continuing education and competencies.

  18. Participates in the introduction and evaluation of new procedures, supplies and equipment.

  19. Orient and train new technologists, students, and residents, etc. as assigned.

  20. Serve as resource person for staff with technical and procedural problems.

Required Qualifications*

In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

  1. Bachelors of Science degree in medical Technology or other biological degree

  2. Two-year experience in a Cellular Therapy Laboratory

Skills

  1. Able to independently organize and prioritize work.

  2. Able to communicate effectively with other medical personnel.

  3. Able to demonstrate and explain technical procedures and policies.

  4. Able to recognize problems and take appropriate action.

  5. Skills basic to the practice of medical laboratory technology.

Requires walking, standing and frequent bending and ability to lift 30 lbs.

Work Schedule

This full time, 40 hour position is on the day shift, however shift coverage may be required on other shifts/days and does include participating in rotating weekend, holiday and on-call work schedule.

Working Conditions

  1. Works with infectious disease and/or hazardous materials.

  2. Exposure to noise from laboratory equipment and pneumatic tube system.

  3. Exposure to liquid nitrogen.
