Summary

Position Overview

The University of Michigan Center for Interprofessional Education (CIPE) and Michigan Medicine RISE seek a talented and energetic individual to help shape and communicate our stories, promote our programs, and inspire others to join our efforts. We are looking for a skilled, creative and versatile communicator, who also enjoys building relationships and sparking dialogue with a broad and diverse set of collaborators. This individual should also be inspired by and comfortable with innovation, as it is the driving force for both the Center for IPE and RISE.

This person will work directly with the Center for IPE (60%) and RISE (40%).They will work closely with the Administrative Directors of the Center for IPE and RISE, as well as the faculty director who oversees both initiatives. In partnership with our leadership and small teams, this individual will develop strategies and tactics for communicating our work to maximize awareness and attract individuals to our efforts. This individual will also collaborate with our large constituency of faculty, staff and learners across the three U-M campuses and academic medical center. The successful candidate will embed themself in important aspects of our work and embrace our visions, while keeping a careful eye on the details of how others perceive our work. This individual will also be part of the Medical School?s Office of Communications? Community of Practice, ensuring community and connections within the communications landscape of the University.

Center for IPE Overview

The Center for Interprofessional Education (CIPE) is a collaborative effort of the 10 health science schools on the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Flint and Dearborn campuses. We are working to implement and innovate interprofessional education to improve the quadruple aims of health through transforming the culture of health professions education and practice from a traditionally siloed approach to one in which individuals are engaged across professions, learning about, from and with one another.

RISE Overview

Research. Innovation. Scholarship. Education. (RISE) is an institutional resource where new ideas in teaching and learning that lead to change are supported. RISE aspires to facilitate greater system-wide awareness of education innovation activities, resources, and funding opportunities and establish pathways that support Innovators from the pilot phase through implementation of their innovation into standard practice. This awareness and support will contribute to new ideas in teaching and learning that impact existing approaches, scale to other places and learner groups, and lead to changes in practice and health outcomes at Michigan Medicine and beyond.

Responsibilities*

Develop and write content for website, newsletters, social media, blog communication, annual report, special communications, and other marketing materials, as needed, to tell the emerging stories of interprofessional and health science education at the University of Michigan

  • Develop and update marketing materials, digital media, and other communications tools to highlight successes and opportunities.

  • Collaborate with and oversee external consultants to develop annual reports and other materials, including graphic design, photography, and others.

  • Bolster the social media (X and Facebook) presence of the Center for IPE and RISE to raise awareness of our successes and share opportunities for engagement and contribute to social media activities across UMMS programs.

  • Manage the Center for IPE and RISE website redesign, including project management of consultant roles and timelines.

  • Maintain and update website content on a regular basis.

  • Lead and plan marketing and communications to align events with the strategic objectives of the work of the CIPE and RISE. Event attendance is necessary on occasion.

  • Use analytics to determine successes, opportunities, and guide strategies, ensuring our marketing/communications plan is deliberate and aligned with our overarching goals.

Develop and maintain relationships with CIPE and RISE teams, as well as partners, to collaboratively ensure marketing and communications efforts are aligned with overarching strategic directions.

  • Provide regular updates to administrative directors on progress, priorities, and opportunities for consideration.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with Michigan Medicine, health science schools, partner Centers and Institutes, central campus communications teams, strategic partners and peer institutions to ensure bidirectional communication pathways to promote successes and opportunities for engagement.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • At least 3-5 years of relevant work experience in communications.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience conducting interviews with subject matter experts and drafting original content for blogs, newsletters, news releases, web pages, social media posts, presentations, speeches, etc.

  • Willingness and eagerness to stay current and proactively adapt to evolving priorities.

  • Experience in web strategy, content creation, analysis and maintenance.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of current social media platforms and trends.

  • Meticulous attention to detail.

  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize and manage time to meet deadlines.

  • Creative thinker with proven ability to use data to monitor trends, adapt approaches, and collaboratively inform decision-making.

  • Ability to work well both independently and in a high functioning team environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including a positive, responsive customer service attitude.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Familiarity with U-M communications environment and branding guidelines.

  • Familiarity with communications around clinical environments, learners and patients.

  • Experience using the Google suite and Microsoft 365 for information sharing and collaboration.

  • Experience using Drupal, SharePoint and/or similar tools for internal and external website development and maintenance.

  • Experience with social media software, such as Sprout.

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite.

Additional Information

The Center for IPE and RISE operate in a hybrid work environment consisting of both in-person and remote work. This position will be classified as a hybrid position. On-boarding and training will primarily take place in-person. Thereafter, the selected staff member will work on average 2 days/week on-site and 3 days/week remotely. Employees are provided with a laptop, monitor, and related accessories. Office equipment such as desk, chair, and printer are not provided for remote work. Employees must provide their own reliable internet access for remote work. Basic supplies, such as paper and pens, are stocked at the business location and available for employees to pick-up should they require these items to complete their work.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
