Job Summary

The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Research Associate to support a federally funded research project focused on loneliness and suicide prevention in adults. We are conducting a pilot study to test two novel treatments for loneliness through Michigan Medicine primary care clinics. Our long-term goal is to find out whether treating loneliness reduces future suicide risk.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals struggling with loneliness. Responsibilities*

  • Screen and recruit study participants, obtain informed consent, collect study assessment surveys, and maintain detailed subject records.

  • Schedule participant study visits.

  • Review patient medical records (MiChart) to assess study eligibility.

  • Conduct suicide risk assessments with participants as needed, as guided by study protocol, under the supervision of study clinicians.

  • Participate in regular team meetings and collaborate with a multidisciplinary research team to ensure the successful implementation of study protocols.

  • Other tasks as assigned (e.g. literature searches, preparing study materials, etc.).

Required Qualifications*

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.

  • One or more years of research experience.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Previous experience working with individuals at elevated suicide risk or other populations experiencing mental health challenges.

Work Schedule

This is a full time position. Most hours will take place during typical day shifts Monday - Friday. However some flex hours in the evening (approximately 2-3 days per week) will be expected to accommodate participant appointments.

Work Locations

This is a hybrid position. Study participant activities (including recruitment) are expected to occur remotely. Other in-office work is required for this position in Ann Arbor, MI. Candidates for this position must be willing and able to work onsite as needed.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
