Summary

The C&W Social Work Manager will provide social work leadership and professional expertise to lead theC.S. Mott Children?s Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women?s Hospitalworkgroups and teams within the Department of Social Work. This role is an integral part of C&W Leadership and will facilitate furthering social workers as clinicians providing care and billing for services. Responsibilities also include clinical supervision, case consultation, program management, personnel management, and fiscal management to promote and support excellent social work services to patients and their families in C&W. Assure compliance with regulatory agencies, Michigan Medicine policies and procedures. Exercise considerable independent decision-making authority and expertise specific to an assigned area. Recruit, select, hire, orient and train, and evaluate staff in assigned areas. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently. Analyze, compare and evaluate data from a variety of sources, and undertake various courses of action with the authority to make independent recommendations on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. As a member of the departmental leadership team, this role also supports the needs of staff across the department in collaboration with other leaders, including oversight of projects and clinical work, coverage for colleagues, and may provide off-hours administrative on-call coverage for support of staff working non-conventional hours.

Responsibilities*

You will be responsible for:

  • Post positions, review resumes, interview candidates, select and hire, orient and train new staff.

  • Monitor performance and support professional development of staff.

  • Utilize data from a variety of sources (including regular dashboard reports) to make programmatic decisions, manage division services, and assure Social Work goals and health system customer needs and expectations are consistently met.

  • Provide clinical consultation to staff, as well as administrative and clinical supervision.

  • Provide administrative on call coverage to the hospital during non-business hours.

  • Develop areas of programmatic specialty; evaluate existing programs, create proposals for new or expanded programs.

  • Assume responsibility for difficult and complex cases based on experience or area of expertise as needed.

  • Membership in (or may lead) hospital or health system-wide interdisciplinary committees focused on patient care, program development, quality, etc.

  • Provide specialty consultation to other health care staff.

  • May provide direct patient care services

Other duties may include some of all of the following:

  • Conduct scholarly presentation to Social Work staff and participate in educational activities for staff, social work students and trainees of other disciplines.

  • Contribute to social work research projects by assisting in project management and analyzing data and presenting data.

  • Provide presentations and consultations to other civic organizations as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • A Master's degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education is necessary.

  • Some experience of professional social work is necessary, in addition to at least 2 years in a Social Work leadership role. (Could include Coordinator or Supervisor experience.)

  • Current licensure (LMSW) to practice Social Work in the State of Michigan is required. Licensure will be verified via PSV by department administration.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Previous experience with pediatrics and/or obstetrics.

  • Specialization and expertise in medical social work.

  • Previous co-chair and/or lead role in committees.

  • Exercising independent judgment with a high degree of autonomy, and initiative in addressing complex situations and organizational systems.

  • Prior leadership experience is required.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to provide leadership in medical social work, communicate complex concepts to all levels of personnel and collaborate effectively with other health care team members.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and appropriately in written and verbal forms.

  • Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely administrative records and data management skills.

Work Schedule

This is full time, 40 hour/week position. The typical schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. This position will require some flexibility for hours outside of this time due to meetings and/or other administrative duties.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification
