Position Description The Senior Insurance & Claims Specialist provides prompt, efficient and equitable claims service to claimants and Anoka County. This position is responsible for administering and processing claims related to the insurance program, including worker's compensation, general liability, auto, and property. The Senior Insurance & Claims Specialist is responsible for applying and renewing insurance programs. This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid position. Interviews will take place the week of 09/30/24 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. Pay & Benefits Salary: $70,012 to $84,011 ($33.66 to $40.39 per hour). 2024 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade [34]: $70,012 to $84,011 ($33.66 to $47.12 per hour). 24 days of paid flexible time off and up to 12.5 paid holidays. Advancement/professional development opportunities. Work Location This position will work at Anoka County Government Center located at 2100 3rd Avenue, Anoka MN 55303. This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office. Expected work hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Job Duties and Responsibilities These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Senior Insurance and Claims Specialist: Process all documentation including First Report of Injury, Occurrence Reports, Notice of Claims, medical invoices, wage information and other claim data. Provide expert level guidance to leadership staff regarding claims and insurance. Maintain records detailing the outcome of the claim adjudication process. Pursue claims for subrogation proceedings in the collection of subrogation funds from third party interests. Analyze and report records of losses for claims activity to senior leadership. Represent Anoka County's interest at administrative conferences and court cases. Meet with Anoka County counsel on open claims. Analyze a broad range of risk financial and control alternatives and recommend alternative to leadership. Identify, evaluate, reduce, and control Anoka County's exposure to loss. Gather utilization and demographic data to assist with employee and retiree health, dental, and ancillary benefits. Renew, secure, and maintain insurance and self-insured programs. Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. Qualifications and Requirements: Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Requires a bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of job-related experience. In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field Possess an Associate in General Insurance and/or Associate in Claims designation Ability o handle confidential information with discretion. Previous customer service experience Knowledge and Ability to analyze, develop and interpret rules, regulations, policies, and practices. Analytical and problem-solving skills Strong verbal and written communication skills. Physical Demands and Work Conditions Standard office environment. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness. Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds. Cognitive abilities required include problem solving, prioritization of tasks, short- and long-term memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skills. Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work, and occasionally pushing carts to transport records or equipment. Physical activity may include repeated bending, reaching, and stooping, while lifting weight of 20-40 lbs. Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment, personal protective equipment. Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
