Central Virginia Electric Cooperative Line Technician/Lineman/Lineworker - CVEC - Appomattox, VA in Appomattox, Virginia
CVEC (Central Virginia Electric Cooperative) is looking to hire a Line Technician in our Appomattox, VA Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing all duties associated with the installation, rearrangement, operation, maintenance, repair, and removal of electrical transmission and distribution facilities; in accordance with CVEC safety rules, policies and practices. This position can be filled at the Apprentice or Journeyman level.
The following essential job duties are required to be performed, with the level of supervision appropriate to the employee's training, ability, and experience:All work may be performed on de-energized or energized equipment or lines.
- Fits up and assembles pole framing and other equipment.
- Operates trucks and derricks, augers, aerial devices, pulling machines, tension machines, and winches.
- Patrols and inspects distribution and transmission circuits.
- Reads, installs and removes meters.
- Keeps records as required.
- Observes and reports unsafe conditions and practices.
- Maintains rights-of-way on de-energized circuits.
- Installs, maintains and removes transformers, reclosers, regulators, capacitors, etc..
- Installs, maintains and removes poles, conductors and framing.
- Installs, maintains and removes street lighting equipment.
- Climbs poles and structures.
- Replaces transformer fuses and circuit fuses.
- Performs switching operations on distribution and transmission circuits.
- Performs switching operations in substations.
- Uses specialized hot line tools on energized circuits.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Successful Completion of an Accredited Line Technician (Lineman) Training Center Preferred.
- Must have valid CDL
- Must have basic computer skills
- Qualification through examination and performance appraisal as determined by the CVEC.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Knowledge of blueprint reading sufficient to interpret and apply information from drawings, instructions and diagrams
- Must be able to navigate CVEC map system on a tablet
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
- Ability to interact with customers and other employees in a courteous and proper manner.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must be available for planned and emergency overtime as required.
- Must be available for mandatory on-call rotation.
- Must live within 30 driving miles of the Appomattox, VA CVEC Division Office
- Must be able to pass pre-employment: background check, physical, and drug/alcohol testing
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must obtain a valid Class A Commercial Drivers license within six (6) months of date of hire.
- Must successfully complete required coursework in VMDAEC apprenticeship program.
Salary Range:$24.00 -$40.00 per hour depending on experience(fully qualified and experienced Lineman/Journeyman may be eligible for more)
