Lockheed Martin Packaging Engineer Senior / Level 3 in Archbald, Pennsylvania

Description: Lockheed Martin's Missiles and Fire Control facility in Archbald, PA is a top employer in the Scranton, PA region building products for the Aerospace and Energy sectors with highly skilled personnel. We offer great career opportunities and are currently seeking a Packaging Engineer to join our team.

-In this exciting role, the engineer will have the opportunity to develop packaging and shipping solutions for our mission critical products. Key areas focus for this role will be on packaging and shipping activity of manufactured goods, to include package and crate design, along with writing fabrication instructions and procedures.

-In this role the engineer will design and develop product crates, skids, and incorporate hardware and materials to ensure that effective and robust end to end transport is facilitated.

-The engineer will evaluate packaging and labeling requirements to quote new product configurations and will define blocking and bracing requirements to ensure optimal preservation and safety during transportation.

-The engineer will have the opportunity to translate contract requirements and write packaging SOP’s our technicians can follow.

-Developing material handling solutions for internal use will be an interesting part of this role.

-The engineer will have the opportunity to identify packaging materials needed and ensure we keep in stock based on our projected needs.

-The engineer will have the opportunity to evaluate government Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) requirements and translate those into packing and storage solutions.

-The engineer will identify labeling requirements and software to create the labels.

-Ensuring we are in compliance with related regulations will also be a key area of responsibility the packaging engineer. Those regulations will include Title 49 Domestic HAZMAT Transportation requirements (CFR 49), DoD.4145 packaging and shipping requirements, and our own in-house procedures.

-The engineer will have the opportunity to keep up-to-date on related packaging industry best practices and technological advancements.

-The engineer may be called on to support some off hours efforts for mission critical product shipments on occasion.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Packaging Engineering or other related Engineering Degree.

• Ability to train and become certified in all processes and procedures applicable to packaging and shipping.

• Understanding / ability to train and certify in 49 CFR HAZMAT transportation courses.

• Excellent communication skills, demonstrated skills in leading a work team and training a small group.

• Computer experience including MSOffice skills.

• Ability to read, understand, and develop written instruction from technical drawings and documents.

• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance and must have at a minimum an interim Secret security clearance prior to start.

• Ability to work additional time outside of normal work schedule.

Desired Skills:

• Background working knowledge of Packaging Engineering practices.

• Web based shipper, Government Bill of lading(GBL), Shipper Letter of Intent(SLI)

• Hazardous Material Training 49CFR, IATA, IMDG

• Ability to work and understand DOD requirements for delivery of assets to various DOD locations.

• Export Shipments

• MIL-STD-129 and MIL-STD-130 IUID/UID labeling

• Preservation packaging

• Skid and Crate design (CAD or similar)

• Transportation logistics

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
