Job Summary

The Accountant I will be responsible for accounts management, monthly reconciliations,

purchasing, and invoicing for the biology department. This role will work closely with

other staff members to maintain overall due diligence and compliance of UTA policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtain financial information from UTA accounting system to manage department funds by cost center at the budget and transaction-level.

  • Enter and track budget corrections and transfers.

  • Enter IDT Journal Entries for the department and the Life Sciences Core Facility in UTA accounting system.

  • Run UTA accounting system queries for data gathering and analysis.

  • Oversee monthly reconciliation of procard/credit card logs and enter data into UTA accounting system.

  • Reconcile monthly financial statements for cost centers and grants in UTA accounting system.

  • Maintain all source documents in department computer files.

  • Assist with budget tracking and maintaining spreadsheets for department funds.

  • Submit purchase requests such as: Mav eShop carts, requisitions/PCs, quotes, service contracts, and procard purchase requests.

  • Submit invoices for payment through UTA accounting system.

  • Submit travel and non-travel reimbursements.

  • Assist with department functions.

  • Assist faculty and staff with purchasing equipment, supplies, and food.

  • Assist with obtaining domestic and international shipping labels.

  • Assist with general office duties.

  • Other duties as warranted.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance or relevant field or the equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of accounting experience in a large academic department or similar environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Efficient and competent working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Aptitude to learn and master new software as needed for the role.

  • Knowledge of the University’s accounting policy and procedures.

  • Knowledge of grant accounting.

  • Knowledge of UTShare accounting system.
