Johnson Controls Building Engineer - Electrical (Job number: 1080) in Arlington, Virginia

We are seeking a commercial Building Engineer to join our federal team supporting the National Defense University (NDU) site in Arlington, VA (military friendly, but experience not required). Our dedicated team here operates, maintains, and repairs all building systems, including the HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, with a primary focus on electrical.

Pay Rate: $32.00 - $40.00 per hour. Negotiable based on experience

Shift: Primarily first shift/day shift hours, Monday-Friday

Benefits: Eligible for benefits (https://www.johnsoncontrols.com/careers) on first day of employment

Vacation: 3 weeks of paid vacation, 5 sick days, 3 floating holidays, and 10 standard holidays per calendar year (6.5 weeks of paid time of in total)

Travel Required : None, all work is based at this location.

As a Building Engineer , you will:

Â

  • Perform routine inspections of building systems and equipment to ensure proper operation.

  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in building systems and equipment.

  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests promptly and effectively.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.

  • Collaborate with external contractors and vendors as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and building codes.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of energy-saving initiatives.

  • Provide support for building renovations and new construction projects.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

    Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in building maintenance or engineering.

  • Strong knowledge of commercial or industrial electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in using maintenance management software and tools.

  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.

  • Valid drivers license

  • The ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances and/or badges as required to perform site duties. (This involves a background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit check.)

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Electrical apprenticeship or formal training in electrical installation techniques.

  • Licensed Electrician

  • OSHA 10 or 30 certifications

    Preferred Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or certification in building engineering or related field preferred.
