Position Summary
The Director, Enterprise Project Management Office is responsible for managing and overseeing large-scale enterprise-wide initiatives and other business operations projects within the mission of Morehouse School of Medicine ( MSM ). This role is critical to the success of these initiatives being executed to include using proven methodologies, techniques, and identifying and coordinating the work of teams completing the day-to-day tasks of the project. The Director, EPMO is instrumental in managing the organization’s success when numerous projects are occurring with overlapping deliverable deadlines. The individual in this role operates at a high level as the organization moves through the completion of a project. This role focuses on the broader impacts of the project, consistency and efficiency of how the work gets done, and the alignment of all EPM office projects with MSM’s strategic goals. The Director, EPMO serves in an advisory role to the Executive Vice President for Operations and Business Affairs and other leaders, on all matters related to enterprise projects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director, EPMO position is responsible for partnering with the EVP to lead the operations and business affairs for Morehouse School of Medicine. This includes leadership and oversight of any professionals inside the Operations and Business Affairs organization. This includes their daily operations, coordination, and communications to ensure there is a standard set for all Operations’ leaders and their engagement with constituents at MSM . The AVP should possess a high level of operations and financial knowledge, skills, and abilities and the commitment to exercise a high degree of accuracy and good judgement and decision-making. This individual will lead and collaborate on other mission related business affairs, contracts, and new partnership contracts that will expand and grow MSM . The AVP will serve as member of the EVP’s Leadership Team and may lead, supervise, and direct other staff in the office and that may report to the EVP of Operations and Business Affairs.
Project Management:
Oversee Project Portfolio: Manage the Operations & Business Affairs project portfolio, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
Project Planning: Develop and maintain project management frameworks, methodologies, and best practices.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate project risks and issues, ensuring timely resolution.
Project Execution: Oversee the execution of projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
Performance Monitoring: Track and report on project performance, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
Project Reviews: Conduct regular project reviews and provide feedback to project teams to drive continuous improvement.
Process Improvement:
Identify Improvement Opportunities: Analyze existing processes to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
Implement Process Improvements: Develop and implement process improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or others as appropriate.
Collaborate with Teams: Work with cross-functional teams to design and implement new or optimized processes.
Monitor Improvements: Track the effectiveness of process improvement efforts using key performance indicators (KPIs).
Standardize Processes: Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and efficiency.
Continuous Improvement Culture: Promote a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization, encouraging employees to identify and act on opportunities for process optimization.
Training and Development: Provide training and support to employees on process improvement techniques and methodologies.
Leadership and Collaboration:
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of professionals in change management, project management, and process improvement.
Strategic Alignment: Work closely with senior leaders to align change, project management, and process improvement initiatives with organizational strategy and objectives.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong relationships to ensure successful collaboration and alignment in initiatives.
Thought Leadership: Serve as a thought leader in change management, project management, and process improvement, providing guidance and insights to the organization.
Change Management:
Develop Change Management Strategies: Design and implement comprehensive strategies to support organizational change and transformation initiatives.
Lead Change Initiatives: Manage and oversee the planning, execution, and sustainability of change initiatives.
Impact Analysis: Conduct change impact assessments and develop mitigation plans to address potential resistance and challenges.
Stakeholder Engagement: Ensure effective communication and engagement with all stakeholders throughout the change process.
Training and Support: Develop training programs and coach leaders and employees to facilitate smooth transitions.
Monitor Effectiveness: Continuously assess the success of change initiatives and make necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
Communication Plans: Develop and implement communication strategies to keep stakeholders informed and engaged.
EXPERIENCE
Change Management Expertise: Extensive experience leading large-scale change initiatives within complex institutions, aligning operational practices with strategic goals.
Fiscal Discipline and Accountability: Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and cost control. Ability to drive fiscal accountability and ensure alignment with MSM’s financial sustainability goals.
Leadership and Communication Skills: Proven leadership capabilities with the ability to guide, mentor, and inspire cross-functional teams. Excellent communication skills to engage and inform stakeholders at all levels.
Journey Mapping and Process Reengineering: Expertise in process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma. Ability to drive meaningful improvements in operations, enhancing stakeholder experience and institutional effectiveness.
Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Ability to think critically and strategically. Skilled in analyzing data and solving complex problems to inform decision-making and drive institutional growth.
Business Model Development: Experience developing and implementing business models that support financial and operational sustainability. Ability to translate complex data into actionable business strategies.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in business administration, management, or a related field with ten years of experience within an academic medical center or similar healthcare environment.
10+ years of work experience within an academic medical center or similar healthcare environment.
Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.
An understanding of strategic alignment, mission-based program expansion, and operational excellence methods.
Preferred Qualifications
Project Management Professional ( PMP ) Certification or equivalent.
Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification or equivalent.
Balanced Scorecard Professional Certification or equivalent.
10+ years experience
