Position Summary

The Office of Medical Education ( OME ) oversees and supports the medical education programs of Morehouse School of Medicine. In medical education, we cultivate an environment of creativity, collaboration, and scholarship. The Office of Medical Education ( OME ) is responsible for creating and implementing an extraordinary curriculum that produces physicians capable of meeting this goal. Morehouse School of Medicine’s mission of educating physicians and advancing medical education more broadly is supported by the department’s provision and oversight of instructional design, faculty development, policy and curriculum development, student assessment, learner and program evaluation, student academic support, and research in medical education.

The Medical Education Research Unit ( MERU ) is a specialized entity that focuses on conducting research related to medical education. MERUs generate evidence through rigorous research studies. This evidence helps in informing educational policies, practices, and decision-making processes at MSM . By conducting research, participants can provide empirical data on the effectiveness of different educational interventions and contribute to evidence-based education in the field of medicine. The MERU also plays a crucial role in exploring innovative teaching and learning methods in medical schools. Faculty will be able to conduct research to identify effective educational strategies, develop curriculum frameworks, and assess the impact of different teaching approaches. This helps in improving the quality of medical education and training provided to future healthcare professionals.

The Program Manager will manage and direct an institutional program of considerable scope and complexity, requiring specialized knowledge of the program and its associated processes and procedures. Responsibilities of jobs may involve providing oversight of operations and services provided by staff and assisting leadership with strategic planning. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and managing daily operations; program policy and procedure design and implementation; and associated business functions. Work may include marketing the program and defending program goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

Reporting directly to the Director of the Medical Education Research Unit, the Program Manager position is responsible for managing the MERU as a cohesive program to achieve specific objectives and deliver value. The establishment of the MERU is deemed necessary to help faculty integrate research into medical curricula to provide students with a suitable foundation on which they can further develop their skills as required in their careers. Responsibilities of the Program Manager of the Medical Education Research Unit include the following:

  • Support the Director on the operation of the Medical Education Research Unit ( MERU ) in achieving the mission of medical education support for Morehouse School of Medicine.

  • Develop, plan, coordinate, and implement activities including, but not limited to, conferences, workshops, webinars, public events, and other related programs; develop and coordinate new ideas and concepts for brochures, social media content, materials, and resources.

  • Coordinate program event logistics, including scheduling of rooms/space, audio/visual support, evaluations, catering arrangements, room set up, and meeting documents.

  • Initiate, coordinate, and monitor the status of requisitions and purchase orders; accounts payable and invoicing; travel requisitions and reimbursements.

  • Provide administrative support and technical assistance to core teams, as deemed necessary

  • Direct program correspondences by preparing and reviewing meeting minutes, memos, and emails.

  • Maintains liaison with other programs, offices, and departments at MSM to coordinate program business and accomplish program objectives; interfaces with external organizations as appropriate to ensure cooperative efforts are enhanced and available resources are utilized.

  • Assist with providing oversight on developing and updating policies and procedures pertinent to the MERU .

  • Assist with creating functional strategies and objectives for the MERU and develop budgets, policies, and procedures to support the infrastructure.

  • Perform other duties as necessary and assigned by the Director of MERU .

  • Ensures all the activities and requirements for the MERU are met.

  • Overseeing the running of the education center, alongside the Director

  • Delivering strong and effective governance of medical education.

  • Communicating effectively about matters relating to all aspects of MERU with directors, senior managers, and clinical leaders across MSM .

Immunization Requirements

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
