We are looking for a Senior Software Engineering Lead for the Azure Application Gateway team, to lead a team of talented engineers, to design, build and operate this fast-paced service. If you are an experienced engineering lead with a track record of delivering high quality services, passion to build and grow people, excitement to operate in a startup culture while delivering services with enterprise level maturity, this is a great opportunity for you to take the next step in your career (experienced individual contributors are encouraged to apply). We own entire services end-to-end from user facing interface to management plane and all the way down to data path implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Leads in Azure Networking are responsible for design, development, testing, deployment and operations of critical services.

  • Engineering Leads own developing the services as well as the engineering team by coaching and mentoring the team members within the team in producing extensible and maintainable code.

  • Lead the innovation around architecture, design and coding by bringing in their expertise and out-of-box thinking. They also get opportunity to manage project timelines and define vision of the product working closely with product managers, leads and partners.

  • Coaches others and acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers across products, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

  • Seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

  • OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience

  • 2+ years of people management experience

  • Proficiency in designing network solutions, distributed systems, and large-scale cloud services

  • Knowledge of container platforms and technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Experience with Azure Services like Azure Storage, Azure KeyVault and Azure AD

  • Knowledge of routing and networking protocols such as IP, IPv6, TCP/UDP, TLS, BGP, BFD

  • Knowledge of application level protocols such as HTTP, HTTPS, QUIC

  • Experience in debugging packet loss and network throughput for large and complex network

  • Contributions to open-source software projects

Software Engineering M4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
