General Motors Software Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia

Job Description

Hybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Warren, MI Austin, TX, or Atlanta, GA) three times per week, at minimum.

The Role:

This is an opportunity within the Advanced Analytics to create, develop, and support new software systems that enable future automotive strategies, supporting core GM business operations within the dealer, sales and marketing and manufacturing.

For this developer role within General Motors, you are responsible for designing, developing, and deploying software applications using sound, industry standard methodologies. You will work with hands-on writing software or solutions, based on detailed requirements and system specifications. Additionally, you will work with development activities that will include:

Updating existing software and/or developing new software solutions to address a specific need or solve a particular business problem. You will contribute to all development activities in accordance with appropriate methodologies and application of a repeatable, systematic, and quantifiable approach to the development process. You will develop your skill further by working closely with more senior developers to ensure code alignment with design patterns/frameworks.

What You’ll do:

  • Design, test, build data pipelines and maintain scalable and reliable infrastructure that support workflows from training to serving ML models.

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to understand requirements (data standards, storage requirements, UI development etc.) and develop solutions to meet the needs.

  • Understanding of data gathering, inspecting, cleansing, transforming and schematization techniques, performing testing and validation of data sets.

  • Proactively engage in the identification / remediation of software issues such as code quality, pattern mismatches, and security issues related to the code or solution/configuration.

  • Knowledge of maintaining and debugging live software applications

  • Work closely with senior developers, software engineers and/or data scientists to gain additional knowledge and expertise.

  • Document software solutions and ensure that technical documentation meets GM standards.

  • Understand and maintain compliance with GM standards and industry standard methodology.

  • Holds themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors.

  • Models GM behaviors and craft a winning culture.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree.

  • 2+ years of overall engineering experience

  • 2+ years of Software development experience with Python, PySpark, Java, SQL.

  • 2+ years of experience with cloud skills - Azure, AWS, or GCP cloud environments. Experience deploying with GitHub or ADO, knowledge of cloud-based data storage solutions.

  • 2+ years of experience of full lifecycle application development using standard design patterns/frameworks

  • 2+ years of experience using several programming languages, tools and/or technologies

  • 2+ years of experience working in the Software development experience with Python, Java, SQL.

  • 2+ years of experience with Azure Databricks, Docker, K8, AWS, or GCP cloud environments. Experience deploying with GitHub or ADO.

  • Proficiency in using databricks for data engineering and machine learning tasks, working with large data sets.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)

  • 2+ years of experience with Data Science, ML frameworks and libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, knowledge of LLMs and NLP models.

  • 2+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools, MLOps practices for deploying and monitoring ML models in production.
