Job Summary:
The Conventional Machinist sets up and operates a variety of manual lathes to produce precision parts and instruments including fabricating, modifying, or repairing mechanical instruments. The Conventional Machinist may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
Essential Functions:
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
Maintains specification by observing drilling grooving and cutting including turning, facing and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Calculates machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position
Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions irregularities and continuing needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:
5+ years' experience in general machining
3+ years' experience operating manual lathes
Experience using measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, plug gauges, and/or air gauges
Knowledge/Skills:
Able to operate:
Drill press
Manual lathe
Punch press machine
Tumbler/de-burr machine
Grinder
CNC lathe machining experience a plus.
Education / Certification: High school diploma or equivalent.
Eligibility Requirement: This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Working Conditions:
Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to safety glasses, heel straps, and shop coats
Must be flexible to work overtime and weekends as needed
Requires lifting 25 lbs.
Top Benefits:
Salary range: $26.82 to 34.31. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs.
