DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Flexible Work Arrangement: Hybrid
The Sr. Engineer will perform interconnection analysis in support of all aspects of the development of the interconnection requests in the PJM queue process. The queue process involves the study of various types of requests which are submitted by customers and which are evaluated for compliance with NERC and RFC standards as well as PJM and transmission owner planning principles. The Sr. Engineer will also engage in a variety of other adequacy and reliability assessments that support the planning function which may include load deliverability studies, retirement studies, and coordination of consultant activities in support of the department's objectives.
Essential Functions: * Perform power system analysis required in the development of reports required for the study of the interconnection requests, retirement studies, etc. * Identify and evaluate transmission system reinforcements required to resolve reliability and operational issues. * Perform adequacy and reliability assessments for the PJM system. * Identify and assist with the development of new and innovative methods in the planning process. * Prepare reports and presentations to support activities of the System Planning Division. * Develop recommendations to PJM management on the implementation of new bulk power facilities, programs, procedures, and policies. * Develop and maintain the necessary transmission system models required for the development of the reports associated with interconnection requests, retirement reports, etc. * Work with transmission owner staff in the development and refinement of the required reinforcements associated with all types of analysis performed by the department. * Work with other members of the System Planning Division to solve complex engineering problems. * Represent PJM on industry committees, task forces, or stakeholder groups involving issues relate to planning and engineering.
Characteristic & Qualifications: Required: * BS department Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience * At least 5 years of experience programming skills for development of analytical and automation tools for enhanced reliability criteria testing and screening * At least 5 years of experience effective mentor helping others perform complex studies * Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail * Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis * Ability to use mathematical and electrical theory * Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support
Preferred: * MS degree in Engineering * Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions * Experience using PSS/e (power system analysis program)
