Job Description Summary: MaineGeneral Health is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Oncology team at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Augusta, Maine.
The Oncology Point of Entry RN Navigator provides caring support for the whole person and shares expert knowledge to help patients & their families meet the challenges a cancer diagnosis can bring. They serve as the first point of contact for patients and families through all stages of care until their Medical Oncology/Radiation Oncology consult.
Job Description:
The Role: Oncology Point of Entry Nurse Navigator (RN)
Serves as a patient advocate, liaison, and advisor/educator to assist patients with navigating the continuum of care.
Job Highlights:
Per diem hours, with a Monday through Friday schedule.
Some evening hours may be required from time to time.
No holidays, nights or weekends
The Work:
Liaises with PCP and specialty offices to facilitate timely and appropriate referrals. Works with multidisciplinary teams to ensure all testing/biopsies are done ahead of time, per NCCN Guidelines to facilitate an appropriate/meaningful consult.
Provides information about diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care. Explains treatment options.
Helps patients connect with resources: clinical trials, genetic counselors, transportation assistance, spiritual support, cancer recovery, smoking cessation, or distress counseling as needed.
Schedules specialist consultations for patients and families
You Have:
Active Maine RN licensure or ability to obtain same in a timely fashion, required
BS in Nursing preferred
At least 3-5 years of experience with oncology patients and families, strongly preferred
Oncology Certification (OCN) or a defined process for the achievement of certification, is required
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Strong problem-solving and advocacy skills
Ability to prioritize workload, handle multiple tasks, and work independently with limited supervision
