Job Overview

The Behavioral Health Placement Specialist supports a clinical team composed of Therapists, Social Workers, Counselors and Nurses who provide mental health assessments for inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care. This role is responsible for screening and assessing the patients' needs, accurately documenting patient information and appropriately scheduling appointments with practitioners based on intake assessments and provider matrix. The position is responsible for recommending the appropriate level of care and screening for safety for various behavioral health programs.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree with a major in psychology or related field. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience in a healthcare setting, to include one (1) year of experience in a behavioral health or pediatric psych se EQUIVALENCY - Direct professional experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Determines eligibility for both internal and/or external behavioral programs and services both within system of care. Identifies and recommends available resources and coordinates information to support patient disposition. Coordinates with appropriate clinical partners and physicians through the patient response inquiry, admission, treatment, and discharge process. Provides patient support services including scheduling, registration, and coordinat on of evaluation appointments and admissions. Receives inbound and/or places outbound patient calls to recommend the appropriate level of care and complete screening for safety related to various behavioral health programs. Supports health insurance management functions by collecting patient insurance information. May also include supporting referrals and pre-authorizations and benefits/eligibility determinations. Performs data entry in medical record and internal data collection systems. Coordinate admissions for higher levels of care with treatment teams, providers, and family. Manage and maintain census for higher levels of care.
