Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Infusion of teplizumab or other clinical immunotherapeutic agents to patients following established infusion protocols

  • Pre-medicate patient prior to infusion or as needed or determined.

  • Start IV medication which includes calculating dosage and reconstitution of medication.

  • Continually monitor patient throughout infusion and post-infusion for reactions, pain or other problems and treat, if necessary, per protocol.

  • Education of infusion discharge instructions.

  • Schedule patients for next infusion appointments.

  • Assessing for symptoms of hyperglycemia or changes in glycemic status

  • Computer charting/data entry

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed to practice in Colorado.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or CPR certification, or willing to obtain prior to starting employment.

  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Supports (PALS) certification or willing to obtain prior to starting employment.

  • Life Supports (PALS) certification or willing to obtain prior to starting employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience working as an RN in a clinical care setting that contributes to proficiency in infusion therapy (such as medical surgical unit, emergency department, intensive care unit, post-anesthesia care unit, or similar setting)

  • Experience in type 1 diabetes and with a Certificate in Diabetes Care and Education from the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education

  • Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Willing and able to assume a flexible work schedule including at least 4 weekend days/month of infusion coverage.

  • Able to establish, secure and maintain vascular access devices as prescribed, including (but not limited to) peripheral IV (PIV) placement.

  • Able to complete PICC and tunneled central venous catheter dressing changes.

  • In-depth understanding of infusion therapy procedures, including medication administration protocols and safety measures.

  • Proficiency in calculating dosages and reconstituting medications for IV administration.

  • Ability to recognize and respond promptly to adverse reactions or complications during infusion therapy.

  • Strong patient education skills to effectively communicate discharge instructions and address patient concerns.

  • Excellent organizational skills to manage patient scheduling and appointment coordination.

  • Knowledge of symptoms and management of hyperglycemia, with the ability to monitor and intervene appropriately.

  • Prociency in computer charting and data entry systems, with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Effective teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with healthcare team members and ensure seamless patient care.

  • Ability to maintain composure and provide compassionate care in high-pressure situations.
